Full description

Join the South Park gang as they celebrate each holiday with Acclaim's South Park Rally for the PC. Get in the spirit with the foul-mouthed kids from the cartoon television series as they compete in go-kart racing mayhem all year round in the snowy mountain town called South Park. Race as Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Mr.Garrison, Kyle Broslofski, Big Gay Al, Kenny McCormick, Jesus, Jimbo Marsh and various others in Arcade, championship and multi-player modes. Cut some cheese with Terrance and Phillip, ride with "authori-tay" against Officer Barbrady or barf if you're in love with Wendy Testaburger! South Park Rally is filled with the comic mischief and irreverent mood of the television series.

In Championship mode, you'll go through 14 different races to collect prizes and end up in the winner's circle. Some of these competitions will have you crossing checkpoints (Rally Days #1), collecting trophies (Rally Days #2), curing cow disease (Cow Days), saving some chickens (Read-A-Book Day), grabbing candy (Halloween), stealing turkeys (Thanksgiving) and even getting Satan to destroy the world on the millennium's New Year's Eve. In Arcade mode, you'll practice to hone your skills, racing as any character on any track with any objective that you've unlocked in Championship mode. Multi-player mode allows you to participate in a LAN session against friends and enemies. You can even host your own game. Gridiron and Ass Battle are a couple of the various tracks on which you can race. Take the opportunity to demonstrate your heinous acts with items such as barf, Mr. Hankey, Kitty, Explosive Diarrhea, Weight Gain 4000, Chocolate Salty Balls, rats, herpes, Cheesy Poofs, Mexican Staring Frog, Phillip Phart, Underwear Gnomes, water balloons, Decoy Cows, caffeine, Sparky the Dog, Spooky-Vision and Pinkeye.

Editorial review

Source: Amazon

To date, every computer or video game based on South Park has been terrible. The good news for fans of the show is that South Park Rally isn't all bad. The bad news is that it's mostly bad, and the novelty of the game wears off quickly.

The idea here is a go-cart style rally race through the town of South Park. Players can control most of the show's major and minor characters, though only a handful of these are accessible at the beginning of the game. The rest become available as you win some races. Each of the characters--from Cartman to Chef to Starvin' Marvin--offers his own commentary throughout each race, chiding you when you're losing and taunting your opponents when you pull ahead. This is primarily where the appeal of the game shines through. Comments like Chef's "Ooh baby!" and Cartman's "Respect my authori-tah!" will almost certainly earn chuckles from players as they make their way around the track.

Unfortunately, that's a pretty lame thrill to take away from a game. The races themselves aren't very exciting and they become repetitive almost immediately. There are only so many times you can race around a track picking up items like anal probes and barf before the novelty wears thin.

Needless to say, South Park Rally will have zero appeal to anyone who hates the TV show. Unfortunately, it will have only limited appeal to those who do like the show. --Michael E. Ryan
