Full descriptionThe 2002 installment in the Electronic Arts soccer series. The game features 16 leagues, 500-plus teams and a total of 10 tournaments. FIFA also makes use of a reward system that lets you unlock new tournaments and even get some player cards. All of the game's rosters can be manipulated, teams can be edited (uniforms, stadiums, etc.), current players can be tweaked and new players can be created. As far as modes go, FIFA 2002 adds a World Cup qualification tournament. This allows you to take any of the teams in the AFC, CONCACAF, UEFA, or CONMEBOL and go through a series of matches that determine who gets to participate in the 2002 World Cup in Korea in Japan.
EA's beautiful soccer series returns with a slower-paced, more realistic approach to the game. Chief among FIFA 2002's innovations is a slick new passing system. With the addition of a strength meter and successful receptions based on player skill ratings, the emphasis is less on arcade action and more on strategy. FIFA 2002 retains the friendly, season and multiplayer modes of its predecessors, and even brings back World Cup qualifying play, something that hasn't been seen in the series for years. Carefully manage your roster as you guide your chosen national teams through regional competitions and tournaments to reach the Cup final. Fantastic animation and tons of real-world player models capture the international flavor of the sport. Motson and Gray are back as well, delivering spot-on commentary with their trademark cleverness. GOAL!

AmazonWith tightened passing, more options, and greater customization,
FIFA Soccer 2002 is sure to please any soccer fanatic. Following the format of the hugely popular series,
FIFA Soccer 2002 includes everything you've come to expect from Electronic Arts in a soccer game.
Broken down in a number of areas, you have the chance to either join in the action straightaway in the form of a friendly match, challenge yourself over a season, enter a knockout tournament, or even tackle the World Cup.
As with previous versions of the game, the gameplay and graphics are very impressive. And this is a soccer game in which you have to think about your state of play rather than simply rushing down the left wing and popping the ball in the back of the net.
With more than 16 national licensed leagues, including leagues in Germany, Brazil, and, of course, England, the game offers the opportunity to play with your favorite team. Failing that, you can always build your own team through the use of a player and team editor and see how it fares against the likes of Manchester United.
This is more than just a kick around the park; this is the ideal soccer game for people looking for some thought rather than pure on-the-ball action. --Jason Denwood
