Thievius Raccoonus, a book of thieving knowledge. The quest begins when Sly comes of age and must track down pieces of the torn tome, which has been been divided among the five villian robbers who stole it.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus features cartoon-like graphics and an emphasis on stealth. Sly can only take one direct hit before becoming road kill, so players must be very cautious about how they handle every situation. Avoiding searchlights, laser-fenced doorways, and angry security guards is just part of the job! Luckily, Sly has a few tricks of his own, like high-tech binoculars and a special cane that allows him to smash objects and reach high places.
A beautifully animated, cartoon quality platform adventure with amusing characters and superb graphics, Sly Raccoon is set in a world of vast, free-roaming levels. Unlike most games, its innovative approach has you sneaking about, using your skills in stealth and thieving in your quest to steal back all the pieces of your missing family heirloom.
Sly Raccoon is born into a family of the world's greatest jewel thieves, in which the 'Thievius Raccoonus', an ancient book and family heirloom is traditionally passed down from generation to generation. In the book are all of the best-kept secrets of the art of thievery, put together over the years from the experiences of Sly's ancestors.
On his eighth birthday, a gang of five villains break into Sly's home, overpower his father and steal the Thievius Raccoonus. The gang split the book five ways, each taking a piece of this vast collection of criminal hints and tips with them. Now, ten years later, it's time for Sly to get out there and steal it back, restoring the family honour.

On Sly's eighth birthday, he is given the Thievius Raccoonus, an instruction manual passed down through the Cooper family for generations on how to be a great thief. But ruthless villains bust in and steal the manual, split it amongst themselves, and then vanish. Sly, along with his two friends Bentley and Murray, must embark on a platform adventure to recover the pages of the book and prove to the world that Sly Cooper is the world's greatest thief. Different skills, such as stealth tactics and platform jumping, are required throughout the game. You'll also pilot vehicles, play minigames, and fight bosses as you proceed.
