Full descriptionThe galactic gangster Jabba the Hutt has brought together Imperials, bounty hunters and other creatures for an intergalactic destruction derby in Star Wars: Demolition, a vehicle combat game set in the Star Wars universe. The game uses the same engine as Vigilante 8 and has similar gameplay: A number of vehicles enter an arena and proceed to destroy each other until only one craft still runs.
The selection of the characters and their vehicles spans the original trilogy to Episode 1. Play such notables as the pilot of an Alliance Snowspeeder, Imperial AT-ST, Boba Fett with his trusty jetpack, Lando Calrissian on a Desert Skiff, or even as the vile Rancor Monster. There are ten characters immediately accessible, and several more that can be unlocked through the course of play. Each vehicle has a different main weapon, which can be charged to four different levels. Charging takes some time, the more you charge your weapon, the more damage it can do. There are also four different weapons that you can find scattered about the arenas.
Players have the opportunity to duke it out in such diverse location as the sands of Tatooine (Sarlacc pit included), the swamps of Degobah, the towering heights of Bespin, and the surface of the Death Star II.
In the tournament mode, which is the game's main feature, you begin with a small amount of credits, and go through four rounds of combat. You earn money by destroying opponents, and lose it by having to make repairs or getting destroyed yourself. If you complete the tournament with 10,000 credits earned, you might have the opportunity to unlock secret characters and locations. Aside from this mode, there is a Battle mode, a High Stakes mode (where you can wager some or all of your cash on single battles) and a Hunt the Droid mode where your job is to hunt down Sentry droids and destroy them before your opponents. In addition to these modes, there is split-screen play for two players.

AmazonA vehicular combat game set "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,"
Star Wars Demolition is yet another embarrassingly mediocre title based on the premier sci-fi movie series. A mishmash of elements from the various
Star Wars films, the laughably implausible premise here allows for disparate combatants (Boba Fett, a piloted podracer, and a Rancor, to name a few) to fight in arenas that range from inappropriate (e.g., the swampy Dagobah) to impossible (e.g., the surface of the Death Star II).
It's a shame that the gameplay in Star Wars Demolition isn't even remotely as imaginative as its "what if?" fanboy scenario, as all you've got here is an uninspired regurgitation of similar games (like Vigilante 8), with clunky controls tossed in for bad measure.
Whatever amusement one can find in Star Wars Demolition wears thin really fast, making this disc one really expensive Star Wars-themed drink coaster.--Joe Hon
