Full descriptionRelive the action of the first movie in the Star Wars prequel trilogy with Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Assume the roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka as you fight, think and use the Force through 11 stages of overhead 3D action.
Your adventure begins on the Trade Federation battleship and progresses to Naboo, Tatooine and Coruscant. While the film's action provides its basis, the game's expanded story occasionally changes the movie's plot for the purpose of gameplay.
Each stage features challenging jumps and a series of puzzles that must be solved in order to advance. There is also a great deal of interaction with other characters as many relay useful information key to the completion of your short-term objectives. Some prove to be quite helpful, while others just want you to leave them alone. Notable conversations include those with Watto, Jabba the Hutt, Boss Nass, Jar Jar Binks and Anakin Skywalker.
Impeding your progress stand Battle Droids, Destroyer Droids, a Coruscant Mercenary, Tusken Raiders, vicious Naboo swamp creatures and other antagonists. And what would a game based on The Phantom Menace be without a climactic confrontation with Darth Maul?
In order to combat this opposition, your vast array of weapons includes four types of blasters, Gungan energy balls, grenades, thermal detonators and droid stunners. In addition, the game's two Jedi can use their powerful lightsabers to slice through anything or the Force to push back and temporarily disable an enemy.
The Phantom Menace is also available on PlayStation.
If, like me, you found the movie lacking in heart and acting skills, you may find fulfillment here in the game. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace takes place in the setting depicted by the biggest movie of 1999 that goes by the same name. You assume the role of young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, in this adventure game of the legendary LucasArts style. Following the storyline of the movie faithfully, you will be able to, in the end, defeat Darth Maul yourself! (like that's a surprise)

AmazonA role-playing tie-in to the popular movie,
The Phantom Menace allows players to save the planet Naboo by assuming four roles: Obi-wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala, and the Queen's bodyguard, Captain Panaka. The action alternates between problem-solving sequences and combat, with side quests thrown in to add some mystery.
The storyline is largely faithful to the 1999 movie, taking players from a Trade Federation battleship to beautifully rendered settings, such as the underwater city of Otoh Gunga and the desert world Tattooine, while introducing them to the film's major characters. Old and new fans of the Star Wars universe will be thrilled to have the chance--as Obi-wan and Qui-Gon--to fight with a light saber, complete with the familiar sound effects. It is often hard to avoid fights--there is little scope for sneaking your way out of trouble. However, the violence committed is often against robots and as a result is fairly bloodless.
The Phantom Menace is easy to learn, despite a clunky keyboard configuration, and enjoyable to play. Advanced gamers may find it too simple for their tastes. For Star Wars devotees and newer players, this game will provide hours of enjoyment. --Alyx Dellamonica
