One of two "'Mech Paks" designed to add new depth to the successful MechWarrior 4 combat sim, this release focuses on enhancements to the Clans content of the game. Players already enjoying MechWarrior 4 can add new multiplayer maps, weapons, and specialized 'Mechs to their game with this release. The companion Inner Sphere 'Mech Pak was released in June 2002. MechWarrior 4: Clan 'Mech Pak was developed by Cyberlore, the studio also responsible for the MechWarrior 4: Black Knight expansion set.

The MechWarrior 4 'Mech Paks will expand the gameplay for the best-selling, award-winning MechWarrior 4: Vengeance, based on the popular game of mechanized combat from FASA Studios. Each Pak will give players new 'Mechs, a new electronics package, a new weapon, and a multiplayer map. Cyberlore, the team behind the successful MechWarrior 4: Black Knight expansion, is developing the Paks in conjunction with the FASA MechWarrior 4 team. The Clan mech pak contains 4 mechs: Masakari, Kodiak, Artic Wolf, Couldron-Born; 1 weapon system: Streak MRM; and 1 electronics package: Enhanced Optics.
