Full descriptionThis is Konami's sequel to 1999's critically praised original Silent Hill, which was often noted for its deep storytelling, believable environments, and engrossing gameplay. Like the original PlayStation game, the Xbox's Silent Hill 2 is an interactive horror story built to derive its effectiveness from unsettling inconsistencies in an otherwise realistic, believable small-town setting. It is written to disturb players with a growing, pervasive sense of darkness and unseen evil, as opposed to regularly shocking them with sudden, unexpected events.
While set in an area of the same town of Silent Hill, this game features a new protagonist and a new storyline, which begins with a love letter from a woman who has been dead for three years. Also new is the sequel's platform. Developed for "next-generation" machines like the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox, Silent Hill 2 is designed to take advantage of the improved technology over that of the original platform to deliver dynamic environmental effects, detailed city streets, and expressive characters that will enhance both realism and utter spookiness.
Return to the eerie town of Silent Hill in an all-new story with all-new characters. Players assume the role of James, who receives a cryptic letter from his wife - who has been dead for three years -- beckoning him to meet her in Silent Hill, a place that holds great meaning for the couple. The mystery of the letter frightens and confuses James, compelling him to investigate the surreal horror and all-too-real danger that awaits him.
Set amongst the dense fog and haunting darkness of the eerie town, accompanied by dramatic music presented in Dolby Surround, Silent Hill 2 pushes the boundaries of macabre horror. Benefiting from the advanced technological power of the Xbox, the visual expressions of the characters, weather conditions and the charnel-house gore of the game are intensely frightening. Players face over 10 new types of enemies and have access to a variety of new weapons, including a pistol and a steel pipe.

AmazonWith its Poe-like atmosphere, dense fog, pitch-black hallways, and a cryptic letter from a dead wife,
Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams promises to surpass the paranoia created by its predecessor,
Silent Hill. The sequel opens with James Sunderland, the series' average joe protagonist, reading a mysterious message that says, "Silent Hill, our sanctuary of memories. I'll be waiting for you there." More puzzling is that the note is signed by Mary, his deceased wife.
James sets out for Silent Hill hopeful that he'll find a trace of Mary. After an aborted attempt by car, James plunges into the dank fog and embarks on his quest by foot. Enter Angela, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Mary, and who also beckons him with another curious message. It seems James can't go back; strange things are happening in Silent Hill.
Silent Hill 2 offers 10 new formidable foes, plenty of puzzles, and bone-chilling gameplay. The sequel's new story and characters promise to thrill and terrify. The visual and sound effects are amazingly detailed and macabre, and, if you're playing on a system with surround sound, you may find yourself keeping the lights on.
