This is my favorite game in the series. It is one that I have played through time and time again. It is a fantastic game with a fun story and great characters. The graphics are quite good for PS2 and to me even better than the the look in FFXII.
It has the best battle system, as it builds upon the classic formula of turnbased that was what made Final Fantasy what it is. However it is a shame that this battle system ends when this game does. |

I'm torn on FFX. For the good, it has one of the best battle systems in the series. Back to basics turn-based, with status effects that work. Also, the grid system is very fun and extremely customizable, which allows you to build your characters (at the end) almost exactly how you want them. Very addicting. Unfortunately, the rest of the game seems to fall in several areas. The story is bland; I kept waiting for it to "start" and get exciting, and then the game ended! Seriously, that threw me off big time. Secondly, the voice acting is completely horrific. Yes, I know, this was the first FF game to use voice acting, so at the time it was forgivable. Now, however, it hurts the ears. Lastly, the music, while decent, was far from the best in the series. Still, this game is extremely fun gameplay-wise, and is worth at least one playthrough, if you can make it that far without wanting to murder Wakka where he stands. |

Little bit of a fanboy moment here but this is my favorite game of all time. Graphics were awesome for its time, the music was amazing and the characters were pretty well rounded. Gameplay was great for those getting tired of the usual boring battle system got a fresh take with being able to swap party members. The story was original and well done, and I personally was entranced from beginning to end. To me this is the perfect Final Fantasy. |

Good game, but overhyped. No FF has been as good as the SNES Final Fantasy games. |

This isn't my favourite FF game, nor is it that memorable, but it does add some interesting elements that work.
In terms of graphics, it has average ps2 graphics. Not bad, but not impressive. In any case, it won't detract from the game. Everything seems fairly well put together. Some of the songs in this game are very catchy and enjoyable, others are bland and irritating. I was really surprised with SquareEnix putting a heavy metal song in. When Auron is rescuing Tidus from Sin's attack, that's when you're hit with death metal. It doesn't slap you in the face, as the lyrics are somewhat quiet, few and far between, yet it really energizes the scene.
The game itself is quite linear, moreso than I'm used to, but the battle system is an improvement. Most memorable is being able to do over 9999 damage. Having Bahamut do 30 000 + feels really good.
The exp system was fun too, being able to choose upgrades. My white mage did more damage with black magic than my black mage did. |

The best FF I ever played, and also one of the all-around best games I ever played. For its time the graphics are absolutely astonishing and the audio is on par with games being made today. Full vocal dialog and the most moving soundtrack you could ever hope to hear, really. It's worth mentioning that the story is also completely epic and easy to follow, which is something FFXII dropped the ball on.
The battle system is turn based, which I know a lot of people aren't crazy about (I like it), but instead of the classic timers in other FF games turns are instead listed in order on the side of the screen and various abilities and buffs will be able to change that order to your advantage, making this the most strategic battle system I have ever played.
If you ever liked a JRPG then you'll like this game; and if you haven't then FFX might just change your mind. |
