So I'm not really into comics/graphic novels anymore, but I used to read Y:the last man pretty religiously (when I thought that I would get back into them). I fell out of going to the local comic shop, and I never was able to catch up. Without providing any spoilers, has anyone read the entire series...and if so, is it worth going back and reading the entire series? Was it worth it? Was there a good payoff?

I have the same story as you man. I read the series up to the mid 20's issues. I checked amazon a few months ago to see how many graphic novels have come out since. From what I remember, the comic is still going strong. But yeah; theirs no doubt, we need to start back up. I'm going to put aside some money this week.
BTW, someone out there in movie land has the rights to make Y into a film.
Yeah, I'm pretty current with all of the issues. I absolutely love the series. I actually have read most of Brian K. Vaughan's stuff. I find him brilliant. I have checked out all the Y: The Last Man stuff out from the library believe it or not. All in graphic novel collected form (TPB). It's brilliant. Check out your local library man, and if they don't have it, see if they have it online if they have a county or statewide website.
I totally forgot about the Runaways. Man, Brain did a great job on that comic too. I'll check my library for that as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah, that's a good idea. I will check out my local library...if the series continues to be as good as I think that it is and that has been reported to be I ultimately end of up buying the rest of the series. Thanks.
No problem, also check out Ex Machina! This is just as good as Y: The Last man. He did the Runaways series like you mentioned. I also enjoyed his Ultimate X-Men run that he wrote.
Brian is the reason I started reading graphic novels again. I used to all the time when I was a kid, but as I grew older I fell out of it. Now I'm almost 30 and have discovered that there is talent in comics still. It's nice to be a kid again...reading adult material.
It's a good series...I'm about 6 months to a year behind in reading it though. Did the series actually end already? I remember it was supposed to end with issue #60, I think, which would have been 5 full years. They're working on a movie version of the comic right now, I believe.
I was at the comic shop a few weeks ago and they had a new issue on the shelf. So I guess it's stilling going strong. I picked up where I left off, which was book 5 (issues 24-31). Man, it's just as good as I remember. Amazon sell the books for $10.35 with free ship over $25. I'm going to buy the next three every soon. Don't hesitate guys, get on it.
It looks like I'll have to do the same thing. I bought the comics, but I'll have to get TPB through Amazon. My library only has the Runaway and the Ex Machina series. Do you all know which is the first TPB of each of the previously listed series? I'm so anal that I cannot just start in the middle of a series...need to begin at its genesis.
I'm about 10 issues from the end of Y: the Last Man, and even though i would like to see it through its end...I'm kinda tired of the series. It really has stalled for me, and I can't imagine how neatly things could be tied up. Anyhow, comicgeek send me a PM and spoil away for me, as I don't think that I'll finish it. Really, I mean it. I'm also a bit tired of Ex Machina. The stories just lose their umph after they get rolling.
I feel the same way about Ex Machina. It seems like the stories with the most promise or are the most interesting (like his nemesis with the animal voice or the dude from the alternate world) are kind of ended abruptly.
B/c this was bumped, just wanted to let you all know how depressing the early details are on the Y: the Last Man flick. Ugh.
Never realized there was going to be a movie. Wonder if it will be like I Am Legend or Children of Men. Some reason these apocalyptic futures and dying of the human race intriques me. I can totally picture it happening too.
Lurk, what comic/graphic novel are you reading now?
