Alright so I ordered a game Ratchet and Clank 2 from a user, and upon receiving the game discovered it did not work. He said it works fine for him in his PS3 (older model) but my PS2 won't read it. I had a similar problem with my fat and thin ps2 consoles so I believe him. I told him about it and he is asking if there is any way I can cancel the trade so I get a refund, and so he wont get negative feedback. Is there any way to do this? It seems like an honest mistake so I'd like to avoid giving him bad feedback.

You leave negative

He disputes it

You hit cancel trade

Make sure he pays for you to ship it back first.

Wrong, that would put the OP in the back of the line for it, it should go:

You leave Negative

He disputes it

He hits "Cancel Trade"

You Accept it

He Pays for shipping for the disc if he wants it back.

Wow, you're completely right. Don't know where my head was when I said that. He needs to initiate the cancel.

Ummmm, I believe this is also wrong.  What you should do:

You leave negative.

He disputes it.

You both agree to cancel.

You escalate to Goozex stating you both wish to cancel.

Let Goozex handle it from there.

Reason:  If you do that cancel yourselves,  there is now no obligation to send the game back (integrity aside).  I got screwed out of a game this way when we cancelled and the buyer never sent me my game back.  Goozex responded that escalation within the dispute centre is the proper way to do it.

Yes, I'm sure the OP wants to wait weeks on end before he can request the game again. Also how do you even know if the seller wants the game back?

Regardless of whether or not he wants to wait weeks, that is the proper way to do it.

How do you know if the seller wants the game back???  You ask.

Not sure why are even mentioning this, in your response you even stated to ship the game back, so obviously you assumed he wants his game back.

Tkszeto is right that is the proper way to go about a cancellation as once the trade is canceled the buyer is under no obligation to send the game back to the seller.  Some people will accept the cancellation then just keep the game as some people are asshats.  The OP probably isnt one of those people but doing it the way you suggested is risky for the seller.

Ummm, did I say something to offend you or something?  You've been pretty agressive in shooting down my advice.  Just trying to tell the OP the proper way to do things...  Please read my complete post (quoted below) if you are going to be like that...  You mentioned "if he wants it back", I said "you ask".  Not much difference there.

You need to keep the trade active in some way till  the seller gets the game back in his possession.  Thats what the center is set up for, so no one gets screwed.  Calm down pug.

If you have the money see a therapist. Or better yet take a vacation. And I'm not being a smartass i'm being serious. It's not healthy to carry around all that pent up aggresion. If it's your thing take a martial arts class.
