The best rpg i ever play has been the DAO and the DLC's. Bioware announces the news that DAO 2 will be out in March rather than Febuary. I can't wait.   See article with the link

Has anyone started playing the new DLC Leiana's song. I downloaded it and will start it this weekend.

Gamestop had feb. 2nd listed as the release date earlier today.  Wonder which one itll be, or better yet, how far back they'll delay it.

I am SOOOO excited for DA2, too bad it's not coming out around my bday or xmas... It is right around my boyfriend's birthday though, so perhaps I'll buy it as a present for him... /evil laugh/

Gamestop tends to put up SWAG dates ... in order to secure pre-orders.

In terms of DA2, I am cautiously optimistic.  Here are some reasons:

Good:

- Dragon Age is a great IP with a solid character and combat system, decent graphics engine, etc.

- The DLC shows there is plenty of depth to explore, and that gives hope that the new story will also provide similar depth.

- Bioware is doing the sequel themselves.

Bad:

- Human Male/Female *only*?!?!  WTF!  Perhaps call it 'Dragon Effect' instead?

- Seriously, while Dragon Age was a really good game, perhaps the most innovative thing was Origin stories ... with THOSE gone it becomes just another high fantasy RPG.

- If they chopped all character creation variation, what ELSE have they chopped in terms of role playing?  Mass Effect was barely a RPG at all, certainly less so than something like Deus Ex ... and I fear that is the direction they are moving.  Great for the typical action gamer who thinks building a character means tweaking eyebrow colors ... but really crappy for the fan of actual RPG's who built up Bioware in the first place.

Hopefully my fears are misplaced ...

I'm cautiously optimistic on this one. Seventeen months seems like a very, very short time between releases to get another quality, fully-developed title. Mass Effect 2 had 2.5 years from the original.

The revelations already that they are focusing on a specific character instead of multiple angles makes me think they might have a chance to get the story developed well by focusing the scope. We shall see.

I have to agree.  I love me ME and ME2, but deep a RPGs they are not.

I might be mistaken, but I think they need a release date to do pre-orders.  Even if not, they almost always tend to put down an estimate even if it is terribly inaccurate.  (oh ... SWAG means either Stupid Wild A$$ Guess or Scientific WAG ...)

Me too, I vented in the "What do you fear most" thread on the DA forums.  I fear it becoming a space cover shooter w/ almost no RPG elements.

But I'm really hoping they just improve the RPG elements already there.  I never play as a dorf and haven't yet started as an elf so it's not that huge of a deal for me w/ the only human thing

I played as a Redguard in Morrowind and Oblivion, I went Bosmer and Dark elf a couple of times

Right now there is almost no information about the game, just marketing BS bullet points

That is my fear - but they could also use it to provide a more focused story while not compromising on the RPG at all ... I mean, look at the Gothic series - you *are* a male human, period.  And those games offer great role-playing value.  So like you, I'll express my concern, but I also have faith in Bioware - they've delivered some really excellent RPG's!

In the package for DA:OA there was a card showing 4-1-11. Could be the date they are shooting for with this game. No one knew what it meant but many people speculated the release of DA 2.
