I couldn't think of the best place to put this so I picked here.

I would like to know everyone's opinion on a different kind of  mis-listing.  I know it is cool as a buyer when you request disc only and get full package or disc and manual, it is a really nice thing to do as a seller, not to mention if that happens you may possibly get a tip you wouldn't have other wise, or just really awesome feedback, but does that seem unfair to the other people in line?

I am just asking for people's opinions, because it would seem unfair to the other buyers in line who requested full package, but, they will never know that they got passed up, and the seller isn't really playing favorites because you have no idea who is getting your game either way.  It is really nice for the buyer because it seems like if you request disc only you are paying the same amount as full package but you are compromising or giving something up in the hopes that you may get matched sooner, but it really seems like disc only kind of comes up less than full package sometimes.

What do you think?

I know there are mixed opinions about this, mostly because of people being skipped over for a trade, but personally I have no issue with it's practice. I see people doing it mostly to try and work for a tip or maybe they've received Full Package on a Disc Only request in the past and see it as returning the good karma.  I've done this a few times myself...never actually gotten a tip from it, but I wasn't expecting one either.

I understand your point about it being a little unfair to the person next in line for Full Package when the trade goes to the person with a Disc Only request - then again if you've been patient enough to wait for days/weeks/months to get matched, a few days more really shouldn't be a huge deal.  Beyond that, I wouldn't want to see people penalized for under-committing and over-delivering on a trade.  Some people even go two steps beyond that and really over-deliver by including extras like strategy guides or gaming nick-nacks, which is beyond awesome and makes the service something special.

I agree with the OP, but this would be hard to police I'm sure.  I've never seen any reason to advertise my products as less than they are, short of trying to ensure your title gets to someone in particular ("Hey guys, I'm next in line for DO!!  *nudge nudge*), which is frowned upon.  All you're doing is short selling yourself and limiting the speed in which you'll be matched, unless you're doing it for the newest of games of course.

I definitely hate less than presented mislisting more than this, but it is a bit of a gray area practice.

The seller should be free to list their games however they please as long as it meets the requirements. It's not unfair at all. If you request FP you know you are going to be waiting a bit longer.

I have done this several times when I have had the option, because I didn't like the feedback of a user who was first in line for FP, or I just didn't like the user. Or even just because I forgot I actually had the full package.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this at all.  The only time it pisses me off is if the seller messages me and asks for a tip.  But other times I have requested disc only and got full package just because I was the next in line to receive the game.  So it doesn't always mean that the seller is mislisting it.

There's always the issue of the seller trying to cover himself too.. "missing origami paper.. do I list it as full pkg or disc only?"

I don't think the buyer requesting disc only is misuse, since they might just get that, even with a new game where the user decides to ebay the case/manual.

As for the seller, I just try to list it as fairly as possible and others should do the same.. If for some reason you get some kick out of skipping a bunch of people to hook up someone at the back of the line, I guess that's your own bizarre pleasure..

To each his own

I only do it if there is an imperfection with the package

The kicker is when the seller is still judged based on the contents they didn't request...

Seller: "Hmmm.  Slight rip in the manual.  I'll list as Disc Only to be safe and send everything."

Buyer: (Receives game and leaves +5 feedback on a Disc Only trade because the manual is in bad shape)

Seller: (RAGE!) "Feedback abusing bastard...."

I rescind my initial no reason remark and I think I too have listed less than FP before solely because I wasn't confident in the quality of one of the other items (case or manual), or in other instances, I had traded for FP and received what could be construed as FP by some, D+M by others (mostly in the case of PC games).

The point that a DO requester could just match up with a FP lister is another fine point.

I've sent full package to someone requesting disk or disk+manual many times. The main reason is that I don't want to worry about the package getting cracked or otherwise damaged during shipping. If anything should happen to it, then I won't get an angry customer as a result.

I almost wonder if these asinine +5 feedbacks are the product of backwards logic.  I mean, if the buyer is requesting anything less than "full package", they probably aren't going to know for sure what condition level the seller listed.  So if you request "disc only", and receive "full package" with a damaged manual, I could almost see someone reason that they should judge the trade as if they had requested "full package".

Completely stupid, but logical if your head is residing in your anus.

I don't know that that would be bizarre if you are just feeling particularly nice the day you list and decide to give a guy who may have been waiting for disc only for a while a nice surprise...  Also somebody said about downtrading yourself or something along those lines, however, you don't get anything less for trading a disc only game than you do for trading full package, so that logic doesn't quite match up to me.  As I said in OP, it is kind of a tree falling with noone to hear it type scenario, because the people who may want full package will never even know it happened.  Plus I believe it says that you are requesting disc only or better condition right, or something along the lines of saying that is the least that you will accept...doesn't it stand to reason that it wouldn't be a problem if you send more?  It almost seems like the site is stating it that way specifically to provide for the possibility of giving more than someone asked for...

I think it is pretty obvious by now that I think it is a ok, I was just curious what everyone else thought.  I am starting to trade a little more, and was glad for a little food for thought before I decided if I might do this every once in a while or not.

I think it is bizarre that you find it being "particularly nice" when you are screwing the ___ number of people in front of that person who want a full package. They might have just added the Disc Only request 5 minutes ago and they jump ahead of people who may have been waiting weeks because you didn't list it correctly.

Well, you seem to be of the impression that I have done this before, and you seem to have a big problem with it, however, I feel a bit like you are attacking me for asking a hypothetical question because I have a different opinion than you do.  So this is really the last thing I am going to bother directing at you since you are being really unreasonable.  To everyone else thanks for opinions, even the ones that disagreed with mine, since that is really  the only reason I post on the forums.
