Anyone know if you can use just a 256mb memory card to use the media center on the 360?

With the drop in the arcade price atm, I'm tempted to set one up in my spare room with an elliptical to >>>TRY<<< (and possibly fail) to get more exercise. Saves me getting another cable box and paying per month.

I use tversity instead of windows media center.  You should try that one.

Yes it will work with all versions of the 360; it streams from your PC so nothing is installed on your 360, the functionality is already included in the dashboard.

Tversity is glitchy as hell with a terrible interface compared to WMC.  Nothing else can stream live TV with TIVO guide functionality for any console.  It's even more amazing how little resources WMC uses to watch / record multiple shows at once.

WMC should be a better selling point for the 360, but they don't advertise it well enough imo.

Wow, I had nothing but problems with WMC.  Then a friend told me to try tversity.  Never had a problem since.  I guess it depends on the setup or what you use it for.  I don't have TIVO.

IIRC, I too had a ton of problems with WMC.  Then I just set up my computer in the computers section of the 360, which I can browse titles in the normal XBox interface, and it works fine.  I couldn't get the fancy WMC interface to work at all.

You and me both.  I ended up just setting up a non-WMC connection and it worked fine.  I have since switched to using the PS3 for playing various media as it seems to support more formats.

ps3mediaserver supports and transcode any format. Despite the name, it works with 360, although functionality might be more basic (never tested it).

*edit* transcoding is optional when it's not needed.

For just playing media, directly through the dashboard is your best bet.  For some reason it supports more formats than WMC.  For live/recorded TV, WMC is the only option.

That sounds familiar.  I believe that was my problem...nothing worked.

Setting it up directly in the dashboard worked wonders, though 99% of the setup is done on the PCs end at that point, so maybe I was just more comfortable there.

Yeah it's annoying I have to watch ripped videos and Hulu (playon) from the dashboard, and get TV through WMC.  But it's easy enough to switch between them and still be connected to my friends list.
