I searched the forums for discussion about this, but I didn't see anything so I'm starting a new thread.

Why is "disc + manual (no box)" an option but "disc + box (no manual)" isn't? Isn't it a LOT more common to have the disc and box with no manual than the disc and manual with no box? Almost all of the games I've bought used have been disc + box with no manual, and it certainly seems to me that someone would be more likely to throw out the manual and keep the box than throw out the box and keep the manual. Where else would they put the game? (and if your answer is "in a CD book", then where would they put the manual?)

I have a couple of games that I bought used with the box but no manual that I want to trade on goozex, and it's annoying that I can't specify that the box is intact and I have to list them as "disc only", and I'd also prefer when getting games from goozex to get the box + disc rather than the manual + disc if the full package isn't available; the way the system is setup now, though, there's no way for me to know if the "disc only" trades that people have listed include the box!

Yes it is but for some reason they not going to change that. I don't know what the reason is.

It's been discussed and mentioned quite a bit. I've no idea why, either.

Yes that would be alot better especially with DVDs where ther is no manual alot of times. Goozex does not seem to care about it though.

Why would you throw out the manual if you have the box to store it in?

Someone cut out pictures from the manual for their scarpbook. Pizza

On a serious note I find manuals a bit annoying. I like to be green and wished they never printed them.

If you wanna give player instruction on how to play the game give it in the game.

I never read a manual for a game. And whenever I open my case to put the disc back for some games the manuals keep falling from the case.

I do not know which idiot came up with an idea of including manuals for video games. Like it is something very difficult to operate.

Used games purchased in store (e.g. from EB) are often missing the manual. Heck, it's even happened that a brand new game has had the manual missing, from time to time. Unfortunately, if I want to list any of these, it has to be as "disc only."

And on the flip side, if there was an option to request disc+box I'd use it on almost all my requests.

Strange thing: Unless I really really really want it, I won't buy a used game without a manual now, because games without a manual are harder to trade. There's a second-hand store I frequent and they sell lots of used console games, and the first thing I do when I see the box of a game I want is to open it to see if there's a manual inside.

it's a throwback from the good old days when games HAD to have manuals to explain things that there wasn't enough room to explain in the game. There were many times in my youth that I'd totally amaze my friends by doing things in NES games that I only knew about because I'd read the manual.

Since about the SNES-era, though, manuals have been pretty superfluous; the only thing I remember seeing in a Playstation game manual that wasn't also explained in the game was the button combination to do a swan dive in the first Tomb Raider, which was purely cosmetic.

lol +1 to this.  I used to do this as well, and when asked how I knew how to do something the quick quip of 'Um, I read the manual?' usually made the other parties feel stupid.

Of course I kept that little nugget of knowledge away from them for some time, to make myself look even more awesome and superior.  I can't believe so many people didn't read them back then...now though, what with these new fangled intarwebs, everyone wants all the secrets and hints and ins and outs INSTANTLY!  Bah I says!

You really searched the forums? I honestly find that hard to believe.

any way, here are some realistic scenarios where disc+manual is useful. And it is a fairly common listing.

Lots of people have PS1 or Dreamcast games that came in a jewel case. When the case got damaged, they threw out the original and just slipped the original manual into a new case, without the back cover art.

Then there are GBA games, where lots of people keep the instructions and throw out the bulky boxes.

And even for more current games. Say you have an Xbox 360 game, but the original green case got damaged. You slip the cover at, manual and disc into a regular black DVD case and list it as disc and manual.

And there's PC games, where the majority of people would much rather have the manual, with all the information you might need, than the boxes. Especially on old games where the boxes were huge and bulky.

I'd rather have this fixed then the request system even though this too has been mentioned overkill
