I mean, hair based attacks and firing guns from your feet seems kind of like a turn offf for me, but i like the DMC kind of style of the game and how it's gotten magnificent reviews. I'm planning on either buying this or Darksiders, which also looks good.

Bayonetta is a very good game with some flaws that can be very frustrating. So far my biggest problems are complete lack of direction in boss battles. It's too much trial and error. The other problem is the scoring that happens after every damn battle. Whether it's 1 guy or 20, they score you based on how well you do.  It should have been left for the end of chapters, because it kind of kills the enjoyment. You can be really into the game, and when the scoring constantly pops up, it feels to arcade-like.

*edit* Oops, need to give the positive.

On the 360 the game looks great. The fighting flows very smoothly and you really feel like a bad ass. Evading attacks in key to battles to invoke witch time, which is an awesome strategy element when fighting larger monsters.  The voice acting isn't bad, but sometimes doesn't match.  The music is awesome if you are a fan of J-Pop, as it is very much in that mold.

Due to it's style, this game will be a love it or hate it.

If you've read my other posts you will know I am critical to the point others find it grating, so any praise I give to a game will be a rarity, if that means anything.

First, the bad stuff that's not really thaty bad: The load times are irritating but not unbearable on the PS3 (not a problem if you want it for the Xbox), the storyline, characters and writing are all atrocious to say the least (thakfully you can skip cutscenes) and the regular battle music, while not bad definitely gets repetitive.

What I liked about it: basically, it does everything DMC did (combos, air juggling if you're into that sort of thing, tons of weapons, and not actually sucking) and more and is very similar in style, so if you like DMC then definitely get it because it's DMC5 in all but name. What it does better though is its signature dodge move which makes the game much more skill-based than its predecessors for rewarding good performance, and the attacks themselves feel a lot more impactful and gratifying. On a more shallow note, the moves are also much more interesting and stylish than Dante's swordplay, which is stale by now, and the foot guns especially are a lot of fun and control well, even if theyy're so weak they might as well shoot styrofoam packing peanuts. The wicked weave (hair attacks) are actually more fun to play than they seemed from the trailer and make combos feel mroe dynamic. More significantly, the bosses and setpieces are of epic scale and almost incomparable. So if you like DMC for the action and God of War for the presentation then this is certainly the game for you.

Now ignore this paragraph unless you want to read my pointless nitpicking: While I think the game provides a more graceful, sexy, lithe counterpart to something more brutal like God Hand, which I still consider to be the reigning king of the genre, it has taken a few steps back in some areas. There are no real slow, heavier attacks that you have on command, which effectively makes timing for those big attacks meaningless, so button mashing is the best strategy (though not to the extent of say, God of War). After properly dodging (which I still think is marvelous), the only real skill in combat is memorizing which combos contain the overpowered juggling and weave attacks. Furthermore it lacks the impact on its techniques. The combat is pure flash and while it looks good, it doesn't feel like it actually hurts.

Still, it's definitely a huge step up from every prior DMC incarnation, and there's no doubt that this is what DMC2 should have been. It's not going perfect and it won't completely change action games overnight like DMC did, but it's definitely in the top 5 for this genre.

I haven't played it yet but "Sexy Action" sells for me. Same reason I liked the first playthrough on WET.

These games might not be good if you classify them as "games" but they are good if you think that you are watching an interactive movie. And there is an audience for these type of games so it might sell very well. But don't decide the quality of the game from its sales. My 2 cents not sure it was relevant but I felt like typing.

Bayonetta is most definitely a game if anything, and would make a terrible interactive movie even compared to the kind of garbage that gets that label usually. I cannot stress enough how absolutely abhorrent everything about the game's presentation is. Playing it is a blast, but the cutscenes are excruciating.

I want to play Bayonetta (so obviously I haven't yet and my opinion doesn't really count towards the original question).

I would very much have rather seen a new DMC game, though.  The game may be great, but hair attacks?  Foot guns?  That's just F'ing retarded.  Ok, as dumb as it is, someone could put a gun in their boot..so at least that's plausable, but hair fighting? *facepalm*

Ok here's my thoughts. This game is the awezoemmesese1!11!z.

The hair attacks are freaking amazing. You don't really do anything to tell you the truth Once you get a boss down to a low level you basically do a finishing move by pressing 2 Buttons (easy) and bayonetta, who's outfit is made of hair, strips naked with just some naughty parts barely covered then her hair turns into a monster the size of a freaking cruise ship and devours the boss. It's pretty amazing to watch to tell you the truth.

As for the guns out of the feet thing. It's actually something I don't use a ton of yet. The guns are pretty underpowered  (level 5 at least) but are good for NON BOSS enemies when you are mobbed or when you want to combo in the air or keep someone in the air.

Now to the game. The story I THINK is really cool. I like it a lot. I love the charecters they are super Tarrantino over the top mixed with Japanese quirkiness. I love the JPOP sound remind me of No More Heroe's soundtrack which I loved. The Combo system takes some getting used to. The cool thing that I just found is that you can replay chapters/levels after you beat them so I'm going back through to try to hone my skills and find some secret stuff and farm.

The load times are annoying. Not kill the game annoying but annoying on the PS3. Screen tearing is not that bad but that may be because I'm running 720p not 1080p. 1080i seemed worse.

The graphics are very very very cool. The cutscenes are very well done. The platforming action sequences are extremely memorable. Not to spoil too much but you run away from lava over and across a crumbling city and the frame rate is solid and it's just amazing.

Anyways I've barely played DMC. This game has it all for me though. There is even a money system where you travel to hell to buy stuff resident evil style.

Seriously I don't think anyone will really dislike this game. It's been amazing so far.

Should I get it then on the PS3 then? I don't mind load times.

I am 14th on PS3 and 37th for the 360 version.

My TV support 1080p so that is what I might be playing.

What would you do?

baah this is puzzling.

Yea, I gave the demo a go.Felt like Devil May Cry with a female. So I guess if you're a DMC fan you'll liek it. Personally, I gave DMC 4 a go, I loved every seccond of it with Nero, but as soon as I switched over to Dante I lost interest in it.

Good question. I mean play the Demo (not sure if you said you did and don't feel like using the back button). The 360 version looks and performs better. However unless you are super anal I don't think the ps3 version is going to be ruined by it's issues. If you don't like it on Ps3 You probably won't like it on 360 either.

I can't get past the Sarah Palin Pin Head character design w/ leg guns.  I thought Dante was cheesball but holy cow this is a new level.

It's the opposite of the big headed super deformed cute JRPG characters, super small head?  Bizarre, even more puzzling is how so many people find the sarah palin pin head "sexy"

I hate Sarah Palin with a passion. however, I don't really think just cause this chick is a brunette with glasses and guns she's palin. It sorta reminds me of her but not that much. This game is TOTALLY CHEESEBALL but it's supposed to be. I mean thats like part of the identity of the game. It's rediculously over the top in an entertaining way.

BTW welcome back I've missed your gentle touch
