The game disc is identical in Fallout 3 GOTY as the original disc. The second disc contains all the add on content and is just installed onto the hard drive. So if you have the original game you could borrow the GOTY edition and just install the content then give it back. The game saves are not affected.

Exactly what I did, I borrowed it from a friend...Gave me 30+ hours of FREE high quality gameplay, thank GOD for not keeping it on the same disk...

I'm gonna have to request GOTY then ship it right back out and request the regular version. Wish i had a friend with the GOTY. In fact, i just wish i had a friend.

Have you tried being likable?

precisely!
360 goty is 2 discs? I have the ps3 version and its just one disc. Must be because of blu rays holding more. I didn't feel like paying 1000 points this late in the game and got a regular version on the 360.
could be a risky plan, I ran into a few technical errors where my gamesaves couldnt be read after installing the dlc. I had to clear my hdd's cache every five-twenty hours of playtime or so and then re-install the dlc.
Luckily I bought the GOTY edition brand new and didnt have to keep borrowing it.
While we're on the subject, I really appreciate bethesda putting all the dlc on an extra disc. download codes are no fun.
there is a DLC disc and then the regular disc. you put in the DLC disc and you download the content then you mut that dics away forever. then you play the campaign because the DLC is installed to your xbox.
I did what you want to do- traded out my old Fallout 3 game and got the GOTY edition. Everything is saved as if I never left it and all the DLC is on a separate disc. Yay for Bethesda!!
