In the spirit of such programs as Cash for Guns and, more recently, Cash for Clunkers, Warner Bros. has begun its "DVD2BLU" program, offering owners of its films in the antiquated DVD (a.k.a. drink coaster) format to exchange them for their proper Blu-ray Disc equivalents for a charge of $7.95 to $9.95 per film. The program's site currently lists 50 titles, with a limit of 25 disc swaps per household.

Interesting.   This could potentially create a market for some of these DVD's here at Goozex I would guess.

Not really, after you take into account the point cost to buy the movie, and then the trade credit followed by the $8-$10 fee to do the conversion, you would probably at best break even if you had just went out and bought the movie.

I've picked up a lot of dvds for $2-5 over the past few years, so this is something I'll definitely be considering. If it came out to ~$10 for blu rays, I'm perfectly comfortable paying that.

I participated in the Warner HD-DVD2BLU promotion a few months back.  It was a good deal; you just sent the paper covers in and kept the HD-DVD and the case.  It took a lot longer than 6 weeks to get my BDs, but I finally got them.  I already swapped 3 of the BDs here.  Got points burning a hole in my pocket hoping that some of my DVD wants get fulfilled.  I guess I'm one of the few still buying DVDs. I've got a BD player and a 65" HDTV, but DVDs still look OK to me.  Moving up to an 82" in the near future; maybe that'll be the tipping pointBig Smile

Too bad this program isn't valid in Canada yet.

The idea is sound especially if you have some first generation DVDs (like Beetlejuice) that never got a new master until recently.
