So, I just got called into the Human Resources office to be warned about sexually harassing others.  My wife, who also works with me, was also present.  We were told to keep our PDAs to a minimum, that it was unprofessional and not appropriate.

Seeing that this happened today, we're pretty sure it was reported today, and pretty sure of who it was.  Guess what they saw?  Some super sexy groping?!?  No.  A hug.

Hot damn!  Call in the press!  A married couple hugged in public and someone was 'offended'!

Personally, I find most sexual harassment claims that make the news to be outright ridiculous grabs at some easy cash, but this one easily takes the cake.  To be put on notice over a hug is quite amusing, and if it weren't for the economy, something I'd challenge.

End vent.  I'm more amused than annoyed really.  My wife though......she's livid.  I'm not going near her for a while...lol.  I told her we were on a handshake basis now; and that I had business cards to provide her if she were interested in future contact.  She wasn't amused.

  1. That is just plain stupid
  2. That is why most companies do not want relatives working for the same company.
  3. Figure out who it is and report them for something in a month or two.

there is so much that goes on in my office that would be considered sexual harrassment; its a good thing that for the most part people don't have a sexually repressed stick up their ass

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

What a waste of your companies time and money bothering the HR department for such a stupid reason.

Maybe the person was mad they weren't being hugged? Offer to have a threesome with them to make amends.

Sure... "just a hug".  I've heard this a million times.  The sad part is how you defend her.  C'mon... tell the truth and get it over with.  If you been sexually assaulted (again) by your wife while at work you can share the lurid details with us.  Did it involve jello?

If only...I love jello.

The funny thing is, this particular company was built upon recruiting family members into the fold; there are many brothers and sisters, moms and daughters, and in my case, husband, wife, mother and father in law all work here.

Come the 21st century though, and you've got to be politically correct.  Most of the company was outraged when we had our sexual harassment seminar last month; being called sweetie was put on the same level as grabbing a womans chest.  I, and another older coworker (in his 50s) assualted this lady with questions questioning the logic of all this during her open Q&A session.   She was so distraught afterwards that from what I heard, didn't offer open Q&A to the other 3 seminars...lol.

Either way, I'm just overwhelmingly confused at best as to why anyone things a simple hug is worth getting bent out of shape over, and that they really had the audacity to report it to HR, as it ruined their day?  Seriously?

Ugh. That sucks. And there is nothing you can do about it.

Unfortunately, what is considered sexual harassment is often determined by the person with the least amount of tolerance. Like someone said above, there may be things at your job that are just outrageous. Hell, if everyone at your job accepts kissing and groping, then it is ok. But as soon as one person is offended by something as simple as a hug, then everyone else has to abide by that limitation. If those involved are in a boss/subordinate role, tolerance goes down dramatically.

I understand your frustration. My wife and I work for the same company. People can get real sensitive over NOTHING. Fortunately we now work in different divisions and rarely see each other at work. People suck.

I figured it out.  Kenny007 reported his own wife because she grabbed his ass during said hug.  Case closed.  Now sue her ass.
