Hey everyone,
We are making another update this week to an important part of the trading system. In a few days you will no longer get points upfront after COMMITTING to a trade. Instead, you will get points upfront if you have CONFIRMED SHIPMENT.
We are doing this for two main reasons. The first is to limit abuse of the points upfront and then canceling a trade issue that we have seen lately. The second is that we want to promote good trading behavior. Clicking on that confirmed shipment button tells the buyer and Goozex that you have actually shipped the game. Please do not confirm shipment unless the game/movie is actually in the mail system.
Here's a breakdown of the two different payment scenarios:
Scenario 1: No Confirmed Shipment
Scenario 2: Confirm Shipment

sounds good, not pts until confirmed shipped, i like.
I like the idea but this is easily bypassed by confirming shipment immediately. Seeing as it's nearly impossible to verify when someone physically shipped a game, I can't say this was a necessary or valuable move.

I like this idea alot....Although you could just confirm shipping right and get your points even if you didn't ship? Maybe make the user wait an hour before clicking CONFIRMED SHIPPED.

not a fan of this update.
An important addition to the rules already explained by Blackcoyote is that the customer service will no longer justify a seller that confirms shipped, and then when a negative feedback is disputed claims that he could not find the game (or other excuse) and request the negative to be reversed.
Once a trade is confirmed shipped, it will be considered as such. The seller checked that everything was ok, mailed the game to the buyer, and then confirmed it as shipped. There will be no coming back.
not sure if this has been implemented yet, (wording is ambiguous) but this is the type of thing that should be announced well in advance.
this still carries no weight in my opinion as no delivery confirmation number is needed to confirm shipment. this also should be sent out in an email to reach a larger number of members than those who read the forums or follow the twitter feed.
I like the idea of this update. I think it might reduce the amount of scammers on here, that and more people will confirm when it is shipped out.
Although as others have pointed out it would be easy to get around by just clicking confirmed shipped.
I guess we shall see though.
Again why not make the user wait an hour to Hit Shipped? That way if they are a scammer they can't just rally off a bunch of games at once
Keep in mind, once you click "Confirm Shipped," you can't back out of the trade. Before, people could commit to shipping a game, collect the points, get a new request sent out to them, and then back out of their offer. Under the new rules, they won't be able to back out any more without going through the entire dispute resolution process.
I think it's a good change. If you want to click Confirm Shipped instantly and pick up your points, go for it, but at that point you're really committed to shipping it out. You can't confirm and then say "whoops I lost the disc" and expect no repercussions. You'll likely get a negative.

I can confirm that this has yet to be implemented, as I just accepted to trade something out a few minutes ago and received the points upon agreeing to ship it out (of course, I've yet to confirm shipment since I haven't shipped it yet, clearly).
I wish they had to do nothing and everyone would be honest. Sadly, that just doesn't happen ... so we have to get things like this. All told, this is minor and should hopefully help somewhat.

I like the idea of this change and I agree that it will probably help. It will atleast help any dispute in negative feedback.
Thanks for updating us prior to the change as well, much appreciated.

I completely agree and to be clear, I like the change.

I like this new change, although it still needs some teeth to be able to reprimand someone for clicking "confirmed" and still waiting 5-10 days to ship it out. Is it possible to now implement a rule to allow buyers to give a neutral if it's confirmed shipped put postmarked 2+days thereafter?
