I just finished the movie about 5 minutes ago. This film not only deeply disturbed me, but mystified me in a way no movie has. The acting, the music, the story, the direction...I could go on. This movie rocked my definition of how powerful film-making can be. Needless to say, after watching this film, I will never do heroin in my life, ha. For those of you that had a chance to see this, please leave your comments and opinions.
ASS TO ASS!
Requiem for a Dream was the movie that showed me what movies are really capable of. I have more respect for it than I do any other modern film.
mrkekeru: ASS TO ASS!
Haha i love that quote almost as uch as "I'm gonna be on tv!"
anyways it is a disturbing movie for sure. If you enjoyed that you should check out "spun". Thats on the same level of f*cked up except for instead of heroin, meth is the focus.
Glad we got that out of the way.
I liked the movie, but to say it 'lays it a bit thick' would be an understatement. I mean, the movie had a lot of things going for in pretty much every area. But I kinda felt like I knew where everything was going very early on, and towards the end it was just tiresome. I realize that the heavy handedness was almost the point, but at a certain point it stopped being interesting to me.
I have to agree with the OP. I watched the movie when it first came out and I was blown away, but it's not for everyone. I honestly cannot think of one negative thing to say about it.

I have one:
It's a terrible movie to watch if you're having a good day. It's an amazing film - but you don't walk away from it feeling all warm and fuzzy.

I gotta say I am one of few people I know that does not like this movie. I have tried watching it and liking it on several occasions but as interesting as the movie is and the scenes of drug use, it just wasn't for me. Somthing about the movie just didn't keep me entertained which is why I watch movies in the first place. I am not saying it is a bad movie by any means, but just not a movie for me.
Haha. Jennifer Connelly was real good in this movie. She's a beautiful woman.

i think everyone does, as it really is the eventual path of addiction
No one who doesn't like this movie is apparently brave enough to say it, but I hated it. I saw it a long time ago not in theaters but within a year or two of being released. Heavy handed does not begin to say it. The movie had no sense of humor or hope or lightness whatsoever. Why would you ever want to watch it again? which is my definition of a great movie and one that I own beacsue I enjoy the rewatch. Donnie Darko is also bs though not for the same reason. that one is intriguing but ultimately empty. At least now I can say I've seen a six foot demonic bunny stab itself in the eye. that's cool. :)
Did anybody else cringe when they saw Jared Leto's arm?

I wanted to cringe several times during the movie.
I never understood the whole game show plot. A game show calls an old lady, tells her she is going to be on tv, and never call her again?
Many people don't realize this, but it is based on a book; and in my opinion one can't fault this film for its "heavy handedness" as it follows the even more depressing book very well. (Yes, the book is even more depressing, it is by Hubert Selby)
But yeah, I'm a huge Aronofsky fan, but I would definitely like to see him tackle some more light hearted stuff. I can see why people wouldn't like this movie, as it is pretty much meant to put you into a depression - but I don't think anyone can say its a bad film. People write their thesis on this movie, so we could go on about it in a really in depth study, but I'll say that I'm just a fan, as much as you can be of such a depressing movie.
Also, one of the most re-used soundtracks ever, by Clint Mansell, who also did the music for Moon which was almost as wonderful.
