Actually traded consoles with a friend so I am testing out the Wii this week.  After playing only an hour for two days straight my chest and biceps are kinda sore.  My Question:  who thinks the Wii can be a serious way to get into shape with the combination of some cardio on the side (of course)?

by using wii fit, there is the possibility for strength training (EA Actrive is the game i was thinking of for this because of the bungee), toning and weight loss; however there is no regime to follow, so you would have to know something about fitness in general to set up a routine

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

Try the gold's gym game. It's a nice cardio workout. :)

Unfortunately, I have been lazy lately. So I haven't been playing it. :(

Thanks for the quick repli, I gets cardio from basketball so I am just looking to tone up a bit.

I have some knowledge of strength training due to my 5 year enlistment in the USMC.

And mostly for my wife to use as well.  Yeah, the regimen thing would be an obstacle I think we could overcome if we stay motivated.

The Wii is capable of giving you a good active workout, but you shouldn't rely on it. Most of the games don't keep your heart rate up for long enough intervals.

The muscles are sore because you don't use them that way on a daily basis.

The short answer: No, the Wii won't give you a good workout by itself.

So percentage wise you would say 75% funzies and 25% workout?

EDIT: Oh, and if we get it, I am only buying the Wii Fit games and Wii Sports.  Only workout related games no game games.

Wii and strength training don't go together.  I guess if you're IWX you could use the Wiimote as a barbell...

I've heard good things about the Gold's Gym for cardio.

It depends on the game. Game games probably won't give you much of a work out, but actual fitness themed games can.

If you play Gold's Gym I would suggest you get an extra wiimote. Otherwise, you will whip yourself with the nunchuck wire (it really hurts!). I also think there's a bit of a delay when using the nunchuck to punch.

EA sports active is pretty good. I was sore as heck after using it for a few weeks. Then like most exercise programs I stopped using it and went back to drinking micro brews

I prolly gonna trade in my PSP as I know I am not getting any benefit from it sitting in my closet.  So some more cardio will be better than less and a PSP in O.F.F. mode.

You should look into EA Active that's the only game I'm aware of that offers resistance training.  I'm not 100% sure if the resistance bands come with it, but you could buy more durable ones from a fitness store.  You would probably have better luck getting bands that offered varying degrees of resistance as well.

Resistance bands DO come with the package but they suck. Buy your own

I still haven't checked that out yet. It's been sitting on my requests for a while but I don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon. Maybe I should just go buy it on Amazon. But right now I like the Gold's gym because you get to punch, weave and dodge to work out music and you have to do this in sync with the rhythm. It reminds me of DDR. :)
