Seeing as many members have their own review threads on movies geared to different genres, quality or just overall thoughts, I have decided to post my own reviews on Asian Cinema and Anime. I have been watching both since the mid '90s and would love to share my opinions and thoughts on what other Goozex users should watch or stay away from. I will rate movies on a scale of 1 - 10. I hope these reviews will help people find movies or series that they may not know about, and at times warn them about others they may want to skip entirely. To kick this thread off I will start with one of the best movies in Asian Cinema.

Oldboy
Oldboy is the second film in director Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy, none of which are related to eachother in story. This movie is about Oh Dae-Su, who is kidnapped and held captive for 15 years before being released suddenly. Oh Dae-Su is then focused on exacting revenge against those who held him captive. He meets a young girl named Mi-Do, a young sushi chef, who helps him out along his path of vengeance. As more and more secrets unravel and he is mocked by the man who was his captor, he is now tasked with finding the reason as to why he was held captive.
Oldboy is a movie filled with violence, tremendous plot twists, brilliant acting and and incredible story. It also features one of the best fight scenes featuring a hammer, a hallway and one guy versus many. Choi Min-Sik is in his finest form playing Oh Dae-Su in this film, and showcases why he is one of Korea's best actors. He even eats a live squid to make a scene in the film as genuine as possible. This is a movie everyone should see, even for those who don't like subtitled film. Oldboy is in my opinion the biggest gem in Korean Cinema, and would stand amongst even the best films from Hollywood.

One of the best continuous shots in modern cinema.
this thread may please me greatly. I just watched Azumi ,Attack girls swim team v the undead , and My Hime in the past few days and am currently working on Please Twins so hopefully this thread might offer me something new to try.
I would also like to personally thank you for telling me where to get that official Higurashi box set cheap. It will certainly get its use.

Azumi was great and will receive a review on here at some point. And glad you are liking rightstuf.com. I recently put in an order there to get a few volumes of anime I need to complete a couple collections.
This was one sequel I highly anticipated. Battle Royale was one of the best Japanese films I had ever seen. While Battle Royale was filed with a great story and interesting characters, Battle Royale II is not. The movie begins with Shuya now behind a terrorist organization known as Wild Seven. Instead of bringing students together to an island to kill each other, the Japanese Government finds a collection of misfits from all around Japan to storm the island Wild Seven is holed up on. Unfortunately as they reach the island, a huge chunk of students are killed immediately. From here it is all a bunch of terrorist sympathizing and America bashing throughout the rest of the movie. With horrible acting by a white man saying the U.S. will bomb the island if Japan does nothing, and other bad acting from the rest of the cast, there really isn't anything good to say about the film. While the original was fresh and sparked a good amount of controversy, this one is poorly crafted and shoves the controversy down your throat. The plot line rarely makes much sense and there is no actual suspense. The original constantly had you wondering who would be the next to die, while this one has you wishing they all would just die. I can't recommend this movie to anyone and even if you loved the original, trust me and do yourself a favor and stay far away from this trash of a sequel.

you had to bring attention to old boy.....damn you.
being a huge fan of the genre, it'll be interesting to see how our opinions on the movies differ; as of now i think you rated BR:II too high

I thought it might be too high also, but I was able to finish the movie without turning it off. Which is why it got a 3, plus there were a few decent scenes in the beginning.
Gonna have to keep an eye out on this thread, might suggest some stuff I'll watch.
This thread is going on my favorites list! :)
I've heard good stuff about Oldboy but I've never gotten around to seeing it. I really need to watch it now. But I still have a bunch of dvds my friend and I bought off Rightstuf and she keeps bugging me to watch the collection of Fushigi Yugi she bought.
Will you be reviewing CJ7? I saw it a while ago and enjoyed it, but I was wondering what you thought of it.

I haven't seen CJ7 yet. I've been meaning to, just haven't had time. I'm a big Stephen Chow fan, so I really need to watch it.
It's meh.
I believe it's also on Instant Stream to Netflix.
That scene manages to be epic and comical at the same time, good stuff.
