UFC and other mma is ok, but I still prefer boxing.  Yes, there is blood...but boxing is infinitely more violent and lethal.  Boxing just needs to be re-organized and controlled by sensible people.

I am a fan of both sports. Both obviously have a rough aspect (I digg that - Hockey, Football etc) and I completely agree with Lurk about Boxing needing to get their act together and whipe management clean and start from scratch. The Heavyweight division is a freaking mess and that is always been the power punch (no pun intended ;) ) of the organization. It is a shame that it has stooped so low over the years. I just hope that both organizations can grow without killing each other.

If any of you have not seen any of the Mickey Ward vs. Arturo Gotti trilogy, you really need to get your hands on that. It is the best and most determined boxing you will ever see.

For UFC, I love watching Forest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. These guys give it everything in the ring.

UFC guys, sorry to continue to thread jack...

All of you have got to watch the Diego Corrales v. Jose Luis Castillo fight, the first one on SHO.  It is available on iTunes.  Watch the entire fight, it's worth it and then some.  Greatest fight in years.

I haven’t watched UCF in some time I used to watch when Shamrock and Gracie where fighting, but I haven’t watched in some time. I think I’ve seen that it is on Spike TV sometimes.

I just watched the latest ufc. wow, there are some very good athletes in there now.

Good wrestlers vs good strikers vs good BJJ.  I want to see more pure boxers come in and show me what they got.  Ron Mercer vs Kimbo Slice was a disappointment.

That's great news and pretty cool to boot.  Does he have the requiste tattoos?  What's his fighting style?

I agree, the Ward-Gatti fights were some of the best ever.  As for UFC, I like Sherk, Liddell, Matt Hughes, some others.

I'm watching UFC 70 now. Nothing big really. I watched the first 5 UFCs and haven't kept up with  it much. I watch it when I get a chance every now and then.

Tomorrow (Saturday 08SEP07), there's UFC 75 on the Spike channel thats free. Rampage Jackson is going to be on.

The Army trains everyone with the Combatitives fighting style with is strongly based off Brazilian Ju Jitsu. Some Special Forces Groups train with a similar style but add in instant death moves or ones that quickly lead up to it.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying Boxing is more violent and lethal than MMA? I strongly disagree with that. Case in point, the recent bout with Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was a full 12 round fight and at the end of the fight both of them looked like they just got out of the shower, not a fight. A regular 3 round MMA fight looks like someone was hit by a car. Boxing may be a more technical fight, and I really don't beleive that either when you account the strategy that goes into submission styled fighters, but MMA is most certainly more violent and lethal.

To answer the general question, I have been an avid fan of MMA since the mid 90's. I've watched UFC and Pride FC quite religously over the years and I am really glad that UFC acquired Pride and have increased their roster. I only wish Fedor Emelianenko would join UFC. I used to also be a huge WWE fan and I was very excited for the recent bout with Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir. I won't say anything about the results of the fight, just in case someone has not yet seen the match.

Also, to answer this: Shawn Sherk is a freak of nature. Sure he tested positive for steroids, but I don't see him coming down in size too much once he gets back. I'm excited to see him tear BJ Penn a new one and reclaim his title. Sherk will probably continue to dominate the 155 division for some time.

Speaking of dominant champions, Anderson Silva is an unbelievable striker, much to the disappointment of Rich Franklin who was dominated 2 times in a row. I don't see anyone else in the 185 division who will give him much competition.

de la Hoya v. Mayweather Jr. was moreover a fight in name than actuality.  Oscar was done before the first bell, and the scoring of that match was ludicrous.

I still stand by earlier opinion of boxing being more lethal.  A bloody nose is no match for actual head trauma.
