Reading recent Wii threads, I realized, there's a whole aspect to my Wii, I'm completely ignoring: its GC backwards compabitibility.  Provided I can track down an affordable wireless GC controller, what are some of the defining mustplay GC games? I mean ones that hold up really well even in this next generation's games?

Also any tips as to whats a good wireless GC controller? (Gotta be wireless.. I can't go back now.)

Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes are a couple of good ones.  Resident Evil (REmake) is another great title.  Probably one of the best remakes I've ever seen.  Zelda: Wind Waker is a fun play.  And I've heard good things about Tales of Symphonia.

Sorry I can't help you too much with a wireless controller, I've only ever used the original ones myself.

the original ANIMAL CROSSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best in the series by far. I've easily thrown upwards of 400 hours into that game.

Pikmin (or Pikmin 2 If you can find it)

Fun adventure games

if you haven't play ed the following games on other systems, I recommend them as well;

Burnout 2: Point of Impact (worth it for crash mode alone), SSX 3 (Best snowboarding game in my opinion), and Simpson's Hit and Run (Fun free roam adventure game, and I'm not a Simpson's' Fan)

EDIT: as for the wireless controller, find a wavebird (Nintendo's official wireless) on ebay and buy a good set of rechargeable batteries. i don't think it has rumble though.

If you've never played or heard much about Eternal Darkness, then you are instructed to track down a copy and play it immediately.  If you like survival horror games you would definitely enjoy this. Oddly, it's much better the less you know about it since it has some unique gameplay elements.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is worth a try - personally I couldn't get into it for more than a few hours.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is highly recommended if you enjoyed any of the past MGS titles.

Wavebird is the way to go for a wireless controller.  I picked up a used one from Gamestop in great condition for less than $20.

the original animal crossing on gamecube is by far one of the best games

it might be  verry kiddie looking but its strangely addicting and fun. Plus its a game that you could always go back to and pick right up easily.

Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2.  You can't play it online on the wii, but you can still play up to 4 player splitscreen.

Metroid Prime and RE4 immediately come to mind.  Oh, and Viewtiful Joe.

I would recommend getting the WII version of RE4.... I liked it a lot on both, but the WII version is updated and improved.

I'll have to check that out.  I'm with the OP, I needs my wireless controllers!  Are there any other wireless options compatible with the Wii?

I highly recommend the RPGs Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia: Legends.  Tales has an active turn-based battle system while Skies is more traditional turn-based.

That is interesting.  I was disappointed that PSU on the 360 didn't have a free co-op campaign.  It would have been nice to play through with some help.

Some of these suggestions have got me thinking of doing the same; I too haven't played Eternal Darkness yet.

And I'd recommend RE4 for the Wii as well; it's one of the few games that the Wii control scheme has down pat and it works wonders in that stellar game.

I absolutely loved Pikmin, and, when I finally found a copy (within a reasonable price) of Pikmin 2, it was also amazing.

Luigi's Mansion was a fun play, probably the best Luigi-only game they've yet made, heh.

I've played several of the Mario sports games, but my favorite is Mario Golf. After that, probably Mario Soccer (or whatever it's called).

Viewtiful Joe is a really excellent 2-D side scroller. I love the art style and it has some really fun combat.

Oh, the Mega Man Anniversary Collection is quite excellent. I couldn't remember if you can get that on other systems, or not...

Zelda: The Windwaker. My favorite Zelda game. I love the music and the art style. Zelda bonus disc. Had like 4 other Zelda games on it. I don't remember what game that came with, as I got my copy for, no joke, 1 cent at a Shopko. Four Zelda games for a penny? Hell yes!

Tales of Symphonia's a good play, as recommended by others. I've heard many good things about Eternal Darkness, but I never managed to 'get into it.'

Summary:

Pikmin, Pikmin 2

Viewtiful Joe

Luigi's Mansion

Mario Golf (Toadstool Tour?)

Zelda: The Windwaker

Megaman Anniversary Collection
