If you've been following any of my posts, you'll note I got a new LCD TV, and I'm still quite pumped about it.  The PS3 was clearly built with HDTV in mind, and it shows.  I can read the PSN Store text now even!

Anyways, I was hoping for some suggestions on games that really show off the new tele.  I know that many next gen games don't truely support 1080 resolution, but maybe there are a few keepers that do?

One game that really changed with the new TV (and was the reason we got the thing to begin with) was RE5.  Not only does it look far prettier on the big TV, but we can read the in game text now, we have nice sized windows for split screen, and one thing that I didn't notice when we played on the old TV is the cool fact that during cut scenes, you get two different views of the action when playing local MP.  Pretty neat.

Any other game suggestions that look pretty, ideally being a solid game as well?

First game I put on my big screen was Time Splitters Future Perfect on PS2. You cant go wrong with that game - plus its cheap in points. FPS With Ninja Monkeys, zombies, sock puppets, bears, midget clowns, and many more characters (atleast 100). Even playing the arcade matches solo is fun because there are so many options Yes

MGS4 looks sensational, but you have to appreciate the game style (not to mention hour long cutscenes). Valkyria Chronicles looks really nice, a watercolor painting come to life, but again you have to appreciate tactical rpgs. I am sure PS3 has other delightful looking games, but those are the two off of the top of my head that I played.

Hmmm...I did quite enjoy the original Time Splitters.  I'll have to see if it'll play on the PS3.  I've been unfortunately shown that the Ratchet & Clank series and the Jak series do not play well on the PS3...killing some of my planned endeavors already.  I still have an ancient PS2 around here somewhere, but I don't want clutter!

lol I'm glad you mentioned those two.  I'm a huge MGS fan, and insisted on getting the bundled MGS4 edition, but after an hour of play on my old TV, I put it down (not due to the game, just time to stop) and haven't picked it back up since.  Is the gameplay that different than the others as you advance?  I did find, though it had been some time since I played the others, that I sucked more at it than I remember.  I used to be quite apt at the stealthy aspect of the game, yet was continually failing the easy introductory kills in 4...

VC, another game I own, albeit it solely due to its universal praise and the fact that I wanted to get in on that $29.99 deal a while back.  I still haven't even played it yet!  Egads!

That may be a hard sell for me, as I adored Uncharted and I think I like that genre more.   However, I think I'm going to set aside some time this weekend to finally pop it in.

Can't really go wrong with most of the exclusive games like Resistance, Uncharted, etc.  For multiplat games Star Wars Forced Unleashed, Tomb Raider Underworld, The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena and Mirror’s Edge look very nice in Hi-Def.

I've found that older games not designed for HD (PS2, GC, Xbox) will look worse on a HDTV than they would on a regular television set.  There are things you can to to help like tweak with your TV's settings, but if you're wondering why your older games might not look as good (specifically on an HD television, not neccesarily an older non-HD big screen TV) then that is most likely the reason for the lower quality.

I've been hearing that a lot...it's a rather pricey BD, and I imagine that's why.  I never did see the series.

If you liked the first Timesplitters, you must get the other two. They are brilliant.

MGS4

Uncharted

Soul Calibur IV (Game is so-so, but it is a great game to show off your HD/PS3 graphics.)

Bioshock

Street Fighter IV

COD4

Killzone 2

Dead Space is a notch below these, but has some pretty good graphics.
