Just got Battlestar Galactica season 1 on HDDVD

Wow, Why haven't I watched this before. Not even done with the first season yet and I'd already rank it as one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I refuse to watch it as long as Starbuck is a chick.

They already put  Ice Cube in my A-Team, maybe they can ruin another childhood memory of mine and cast the battlestar galactica chick as Face as well.

I haven't seen the original series so I can't comment but I don't see anything wrong with her being a girl here.

Did you watch the miniseries first? Yes, the first 2 seasons of Battlestar Galactica (new version) are amazing. The rest is still really good too. I think fans of the original who want to try to watch the new version just have to go in with an open mind or else they will probably be disappointed at the changes.

There probably isn't.  It's just one of those things that stomps on my childhood memories, like how they went through all the trouble to get Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime for the Transformers movie, but even though Frank Welker was willing and able to do Megatron, they went with Agent Smith instead.  Or if, god forbid, they have Snake Eyes talk in the upcoming GI Joe flick.  *shudder*

Well it wasn't supposed to be a remake. It's a reimagining. Which for the most part is better. If they did everything the same as before than what's the point in watching it.   And that Transformers thing is silly, at least to me anyway.  To me it's like hating on TMNT because Sarah Michelle Geller voiced April as opposed to the actress from the cartoon or movie. It's a minor detail that doesn't affect my enjoyment of it.

EDIT: I just read the wikipedia page for the old Starbuck character. And other than the gender they are almost exactly the same.

Starbuck was an awful character on the original, and lo and behold, she is the worst character on the new series too.  But at least she is pretty!

Enjoy season 1 OP! the HD-DVD season one should have the pilot/mini-series as part of it.   I also agree that season 1 BSG (new series) is one of the finest TV shows ever filmed. Seasons 2.0 and 2.5 are also damn fine, slows down a bit in season 3.0, picks up again in 3.5, and then takes a big dump in season 4.0 and commits suicide in season 4.5.

Here is the order in which to watch according to the wiki.  The webisodes are really strong for the most part.

• 3.1 Genesis (pilot/miniseries rolled into seson 1 DVDs)
  
• 3.2 Season One
• 3.3 Season Two
• 3.4 Webisodes: The Resistance
• 3.5 Season Three
• 3.6 Webisodes: Razor Flashbacks
• 3.7 Season Four
  • 3.7.1 Razor (TV Movie)
  • 3.7.2 Episodes 3 to 12
  • 3.7.3 Webisodes: The Face of the Enemy
  • 3.7.4 Episodes 13 to 22

Michal Bay's awful car commercial you mean?  one of the worst movies ever made, to put salt on a wound it has Shia Lebuff in it..WTH?  I'd rather smash my nuts w/ a wooden mallet than ever see another Michael Bay movie(commercial).  Everything he makes is an extended car commercial w/ a scene w/ a helicopter flying in from a sunset.  The guy is one of the worst hacks in hollywood.

And if that's why you dislike it, fine(personally I enjoyed it) but hating on it because of a different VA is a bit silly, the voice worked for tha character. It's not like they brought in Gilbert Gottfried to do the voice.

I never said I hate on it.  I said it was a disappointment that they went through the trouble of securing the original voice actor for one of the main roles, due to fan demand, but the other, who fans also wanted, who was very eager to do it, was not used.  Welker did do the voice in the video game though.

I can't hate on new Battlestar Galactica either, as I havn't seen it.  Reimagining or not, since I view it as crapping in the cheerios that is my youthful reminisence, I choose not to support it.  I mean, the Cylons aren't even robot things.

With the example of GI Joe, if he talks, I'll be pretty upset.  It's one thing to have a new voice, but to remain true, although update, the character.  It's another thing to rewrite it completely.  If you're going to do something new, great.  More power to you, and I'll be happy to check it out.  Don't name it the same thing though, because it's not.

But the overall plot IS the same. The Cylons attack humanity and the ragtag group of survivors led by the lone surviving Battlestar, Galactica travel space seeking a new home while trying to escape the Cylons.

Really? Maybe the Wikipedia page from the old series is wrong, but it certainly seems to imply they are robots.

They fought a thousand-year war with the Cylons, warrior robots created by a reptilian race which expired long ago--presumably destroyed by their own creations. Having never been commanded to cease fire, these warrior robots continuously waged war against the colonials. Mankind was defeated in a sneak attack on their homeworlds conceived by these robotic servants, now referred to as Cylons, and carried out with the help of Count Baltar

BSG will blow your mind if you watch those 2 shows.  I was a big heroes fan in season 1 but OH GAWD what happened since :(.
