Which one would you say is better? I am saving up money for a new computer but I'm still trying to decide which one I should get. The new computer I'll get won't be for gaming, it will just be for surfing the web. Please post why you chose the platform you chose.

Mac is more accessible, fun (photobooth), sleeker, better for film-making, and less prone to viruses.

PC's are great and all.  They're all I use since they're sooooooooooooo much cheaper.  But if you have the money, Mac's are amazing.  Everyone I know that has them loves them.  And I've never heard of anyone having an issue with them getting a virus or some hardware malfunction.  They're industructible.  But this is only if you want to spend that extra money.  If you want to save money on one, I heard that the Refurbs and basically in new condition and they never break or anything either.  Plus they get some kind of warranty with them

Hope that helped  Yes

It's not hating at all.  I have 3 pc's and I picked the mac.  It's much better, it's just that high price mark that keeps it from everyone having that instead of a pc

As a gamer I'd go pc.  Everything runs on pc.  If you're going to be using it for specialty purposes, other than gaming, go mac.

PC- (Pevert Clown for Always Sunny fansWink)

I really don't like Apple or alot of the stuff they push, the whole apple's are indestructible and are free from viruses campaign is total BS. The only time i have gotten a virus on a PC was when i was doing something I shouldn't have and there are a lot of people who have hardware problems with their macs but since Windows is the largest OS platform out there you here more people having problems and the fact PC's are not entirely made and specialized by one company but rather anybody could build one. The really good things Macs have going for them is a compact desktop design with the bulk of the computer in the monitor and the OS uses less computer resources. Although if you get to be knowledgable about windows you can cut down a lot of the bulk stuff using resources for stuff you don't need, plus the price for the rig and if you need to get your thing serviced and having to buy programs that are compatible with windows that might be required at school/work/families/friends.

If I were you i would wait till ~ dec. and try to buy a cheap laptop with windows 7 on it and when you get it install a small sized Linux partition for a taste of what Mac can do since it is pretty close to it and for fun and education purpose because truly Linux = the best IMO. Lastly even a Mac is a PC in reality.

PC FTW Forever:

I once (recently) compared a PC Laptop to a Mac Laptop. The PC had twice the Graphics card and Twice the Harddrive. The rest was the same.

The MAC was 800 Dollars more! Mac's are good for some people don't get me wrong. Video Editors/Editors in general like MAC's. However, the majority of people who have a MAC that I know are people who use computers for ITUNES and Surfing the Net. Is that really worth 2800 dollars? I think not.

Of course you will see lots of people defending MACS on the web with the common defense of "Well I use it for Video Editing." but of course those people are advanced users. They don't count. When I see a soccer mom spend 2800 dollars on a mac when she could have gotten her needs out of a 80 dollar used DELL then I get pissed at earthlings.

PC's =

Cheaper

More Compatible

Open Source FTW

Better Gaming Boxes

MACS=

No virus's because why would you program virus's for 1/10th of the computing population

Shiney

In MACS defense they have an excellent add campaign.

But in the long run the PC, especially with the EXCELLENT windows 7, will win out.

MACS are status symbols. They are not top of the line in any way or means.

One day my people will return to earth and wipe all MACS off the planet. Until that day though we will continue to rig your elections.

With Mac's using Intel hardware inside among other things the difference is not as great as it used to be.  If you really wanted to you could boot windows on a Mac through Boot Camp.  I personally would pick  a PC as that is what I am used too.

If you are 'only' surfing the net, you don't need much of a computer.  I'd buy (actually, I'd build for better control) the cheapest pc I can find with a Athlon x64 or an Intel Core Duo and 2-3 gigs of ram.  (think less than $500).  If you are looking for security and don't want to spend on a mac, use linux. (You might want to dual-boot windows for awhile until you get comfortable with it.  Ubuntu is the easiest to learn.  Linux is free, so no worries if you decide you don't like it.)  Are you sure that you only want it for surfing?  So many people who say that to me later reveal that they 'might' get into games or video editing.  You'll need an entirely different box for that.

Macs are pretty and easy to use...  but is it worth the difference in price when you are only going to use it for surfing the net?  Only you can answer that for yourself.

Please let us know what you end up getting.

Mac is more accessible- Really? It has less software and costs Hundreds of Dollars more for less hardware

fun (photobooth), sleeker- I'll give you this. However, windows 7 coming out this summer is amazingly sleek and fast.

better for film-making- He's surfing he web

less prone to viruses- The funny thing is that as Macs Market share goes up Virus's will start becoming more common. Anyways you have to be unlucky or dumb to get a virus.

All in All Macs are a WASTE of money unless you are a video editor or sound editor. a 17" Macbook costs 800 dollars more then a 17" Acer Laptop. Of course the Acer has a bigger harddrive more ram and a better video card.

If you are surfing the net only you should really buy a CHEAP laptop no matter what. You can get a used laptop for like 60 bucks if you want to surf the web. Spending 1000's on a Mac or PC for web surfing is dumb. I'd get a 5-600 dollar Laptop from newegg or something.

I work in IT so obviously I work with PC's way more then Mac

You know, the funny thing about mac is it has everything you need built in. You don't have to pay anything more. And you don't have to be stupid to get a virus. They don't just exist in pop-ups. Still, I feel that the mac is more fun and sleeker than pc, even with 7 coming. PC is better for gaming, but I have crossover, so I cn play most PC games on my mac. Macs are simply not a waste of money. Oh, and do you recallhat almost everything microsoft has done was not heir idea? The mouse, avatars that look almost exactaly like the miis, the Scene It series that has a controller that looks just like the Buzz controllers, and now the MyPhone. Maybe I would give them SOME money if they had their own ideas.

thats funny because apple have been stealing interface ideas ever since the Mac was an idea in steve jobs head. if you really want the best interface and tools for lots of stuff like gaming and software that is also free go with linux, its simply at least 4 years ahead of Mac or Windows. Hell itunes, the iphone and the ipod are stolen ideas from companies like MS, nokia, Sony, etc.. The only good thing about apple was Steve Wozniak and he left and its been crap since. Also how does a Macbook come with eveything you need built in but a HP laptop that is more powerful at a price tag of $700 don't? Apple has fooled people into thinking their getting something special, but in reality alll they are getting is a false sense of elitism with their "Name Brand".
