i had someone request super smash bros today and after I accepted the trade I realized the guy had sent me a message asking me to cancel to trade.

first of all am i under any obligation to cancel and if I dont would I be punished in anyway?

second is there no way for the buyer to cancel the trade other than asking the seller?

You are under no obligation to cancel the trade.  If you send the game out protect yourself by purchasing Delivery Confirmation - that way you will have proof the game delivered and the other trader cannot give you a negative claiming the game was never delivered.

If you were to initiate a trade cancel your game would be removed from the queue, forcing you to relist it in back of the queue.  The receiver does have an option to initiate a trade cancel (you would get an official email from Goozex asking if you wanted accept the cancel or not), and if they were to initiate the trade cancel and you accepted it, it would be them that moved to the back of the queue while you would retain the position you had once the game got matched (which is not necessarily 1st place).

If I were in your shoes this is what I would do:  Send the trader a PM letting them know that they can initiate a trade cancel (the button should be next to the game in their request list), but if they don't initiate the cancel in 7 days (or you can offer 3 days if you like) you will have to send the game out.  If they didn't initiate a cancel, I would not only buy DC, but I would take a digital photo of the game, including both sides of the disc, just so I had proof in case the trader tried to claim the disc was unplayable/broken.  It's all probably overkill, but better safe than sorry.

I went ahead and canceled the trade and let the buyer know that if he no longer wants a game to make sure it is off his request list. and let him know once the trade is in action the seller has no obligation to cancel. that is right.. right?

Should be.  Cool move by the way, very understanding.
