Game Informer:
Game Informer subscribers are in for a real treat this month. We’re proud to bring you the world-exclusive first look at Batman: Arkham Asylum from Rocksteady Studios and Eidos. This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies. In a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock (with a story co-written by Paul Dini), Arkham Asylum is setting the stage for a true-to-character Batman game. Aug 18.

Taken from Game Informer, and Evil Avatar.

EDIT: Timer replaced with Developer's website.

This game looks fantastic. What makes it better is it is drawing off the same source as what the new Batman movies have drawn on. Not too mention they are staying away from the movie, which is also very nice. I cannot wait for this one to come out. It's been far too long since a decent BAtman game has been made.

I've found screenshots like those that look like they are from cutscenes have zero relevance to whether a game will be fun to play or not.  I'm crossing my fingers for this game to be awesome.  Conceivably they can make a great RPG out of it as you progress from Batman year one to the Dark Knight type of thing.  Otherwise, I'd be happy with a Splinter Cell type of game play.

It should be known that this game shares it's title with a fantastic comic and while it hasn't been explicitly stated yet, the game is expected to follow the graphic novel and expand upon it. The comic is very dark, but if you've read it, you know how it could easily translate to an awesome "Bioshock" style of story telling (finding and reading journals, recordings, witnessing horrible experiments, twist concerning the head of the Asylum, etc).

Yeah, like the console Star Wars Episode III game.
