Does a list like this exist? I've tried to look for a top 10 list of greatest street fighter version but had no luck.

Just wanted to ask the audience.

I like Street Fighter III: Alpha 3

I think general opinion holds Street fighter II the highest.

Personally I can't stand the games.

You are wrong there. Street Fighter II was HORRIBLY unbalanced. You could not play the same character VS themselves. I could go on,but...

I'm torn between SF II: Champion Edition or Alpha 2.

I could never get in to SF III.

Oh and the arcade versions were ALWAYS superior. With the exception of Alpha 2 for the Dreamcast, all the console versions pretty much sucked.

I meant Street Figher 2 in general. I have no idea which version is the best.

The SF 2 days and alpha days brings back the memories, back then when the arcades were still alive. Whenever I tossed someone they would literally called it cheap! Now days things just get ported straight to home consoles.

Street Fighter IV is being modeled after the success of Street Fighter 2, whether it's hyper, championship edition whatever, that was the pinnacle of the series and the games that came thereafter all fell short of the success of 2. That's why SFIV will be going back to a 2D plane, featuring all the original characters and the like. From what I remember, there have been 2 new fighters added to the original cast, hopefully they add more. I've always loved the Street Fighter series and I too have good memories of rolling through the quarters at the arcades.

Does X-Men vs Street Fighter count?

In all seriousness though, Street Fighter II. You can nitpick on which version if you like.

No it doesn't count. Completly different fighting engine.

Also, not to be a jerk, but it isn't nitpicking at all. You just ignornat in your SFII knowledge. There are major differences in most of the games. While they share the same name,  they are different.
