Goozex Promo: No Student Fees

Starting today, all registered members that have a ".edu" email address on file with Goozex will receive free trading through January 31, 2010. This means no trading token required to trade games or movies for all students!

We understand students across the country are over-burdened with high tuition costs, cost-of-living expenses and Holiday shopping. Often times they need to give up a large portion of their entertainment budget to keep up with raising living costs on- and off-campus. Thia "no trade fees for students" promotion intends to help students get access to more games and movies during the Holiday season.

This promotion applies to all existing and future Goozex members that register their account using a valid ".edu" email address (email address must be confirmed and account activated).

Goozex has launched a new special promotional campaign for the upcoming Holiday season that gives you more points for trading out new games and movies. The promotion rewards members that sell select games and movies during the first 30 days from release date. Eligible game trades receive a 200 point bonus and eligible movie trades receive a 100 point bonus.

A few more info:

The buyer pays the nominal price of the item. The point bonus is paid to the seller by Goozex.
The point bonus is awarded to the seller as soon as the trade is completed with positive feedback (or system close).
Eligible trades are initiated within the first 30 days from the release date (*) with a seller's acceptance to trade the item. Feedback may be received later, and the bonus will still be awarded as long as the trade started within the first 30-day period.

New Policy: No Animated Gifs in Forum Signature

Hey everyone,

As of today, we are updating a forum policy to not include animated gifs in your forum signature. Our thinking is that they often distract readers and sometimes drive the thread off topic. Don't stress out if you have an animated gif in your signature now. We kindly ask that you just remove it.

Starting next week, the mods will be asked to report to us anybody that has been asked to take down their animated gif and didn't do it in 24 hours. If the mods with no other option will effectively place temporary bans. We don't think that will be the case, but the rules are there now.

Video Game Survey Request

Hi everyone,

Wanted to post a notice about an email a few of you may receive from Goozex. We are testing a new relationship with a very reputable video game research firm that has clients with all major game publishers. For this test, we will be emailing a few members to complete a survey about an upcoming sports title. It is purely optional. I have personally taken the survey and it highlights a very specific well known game in the market.

I wanted to post a couple of comments to help with any future questions:

Why we think you would be interested? Because from what we have seen it really allows members to see some products before they are released or announced -- which is kind of cool. I also believe there can be beta testing opportunities involved, but not confirmed
We did not and will not give any private information away including name and email. If you take the survey then you can leave your info if you would like to.
If this test is successful in terms of you guys liking it then we will add an "Opt-In" check box in "my account" to ask to participate in future surveys.

Update: New Exchange Discussion pt.3

Hey everyone,

The last Exchange thread got really long and we wanted to start a new fresh discussion on the exchange. By now we have taken a lot of the feedback from the previous thread and we have a good amount of purchase data to look at as well. It may have been missed, but in the last thread we did mention that part of the bigger picture was a points + cash hybrid model to be part of the exchange.

The image below is a work-in-progress idea of this hybrid model. Take a look and of course let us know what you think. The purpose of the hybrid model is to offer members more options to exchange points for a game.

Update: Points paid after confirmed ship

Hey everyone,

We are making another update this week to an important part of the trading system. In a few days you will no longer get points upfront after COMMITTING to a trade. Instead, you will get points upfront if you have CONFIRMED SHIPMENT.

We are doing this for two main reasons. The first is to limit abuse of the points upfront and then canceling a trade issue that we have seen lately. The second is that we want to promote good trading behavior. Clicking on that confirmed shipment button tells the buyer and Goozex that you have actually shipped the game. Please do not confirm shipment unless the game/movie is actually in the mail system.

Here's a breakdown of the two different payment scenarios:

Scenario 1: No Confirmed Shipment

Seller will not get points until the buyer provides positive or undisputed neutral feedback
Seller can initiate a trade cancel at any time (same as today)

Scenario 2: Confirm Shipment

If feedback score is greater than 20 and account is in good standing and the seller confirms shipment, then seller will receive points immediately
Seller can no longer initiate a trade cancel
If buyer leaves negative and the trade enters into a dispute process, then the seller or buyer may cancel the trade if that is the agreed best option

Free MovieTrades

Quick announcement before sending out our newsletter. Starting today through January 31, 2010 all movie trades will be FREE! That means you don't need any tokens to get movies on Goozex for the next two and half months.

Straight from our Newsletter:

Yay! Free trade days are back again for movies on Goozex! From now until January 31, 2010 you will not need any tokens to trade movies. You will just need the appropriate amount of points to get movies. HURRY before this promotion ends!

Trading Blu-Rays and DVDs is a new way members are picking up a few extra points on Goozex. With a lot of great movies in demand, it’s an easy way to pick up some points for trading on Goozex or to put towards the Goozex Exchange. Movie trading is a great way to recycle your old movies and let you own some of the movies you’ve wanted to watch, but didn’t get around to. Just point, click and add movies to your queues!

Instant Match

The development team at Goozex has further optimized the matching process for all those games that have copies immediately available for trading. When requesting games a new pop-up will show information about getting an instant match with a seller for a game. For example, if requesting Halo Wars, it may say that by requesting Disc Only you will have an instant match, versus requesting Full Package and getting into the queue.

The new Instant Match will not change the way Goozex works. It will only simplify the user interface, and share more information about the availability of each title upfront. Hopefully this will make it easier and faster to trade on Goozex!

Update: New Goozex Exchange v.2

Hey everyone,

We wanted to start a new thread since the other one had so many pages to read through. We expect to relaunch the new Goozex Exchange on Friday, October 2nd. A select group of games and movies will be available that you can find out on the exchange page. We'll be adding new games and movies on a regular basis -- so if you don't see anything you want, check back later to see what's new for you.

For those who are new to the idea of the Goozex Exchange it can be summed up as a program whereby you can convert your Goozex points for new product items. Our intention is to add value to your Goozex experience and let your points extend beyond movie & game trading. Our vision is to have the Exchange be a long-term continuously run program that users can access any time. To achieve this vision, there are important changes to the way we organized it before.

Here are the new restrictions:

Member can purchase only 1 copy of a product
Member can purchase only once per month
Minimum feedback score of 100 - OR - Minimum 5 trades completed as a seller in the last 60 days with all positive feedback

Just like before, the point prices on the exchange will not be face market value of the item. Goozex points spent in the Exchange must be "fully earned." Fully earned means that the points are not in transit during a committed state, but have been finalized after positive feedback.

Prior to this Friday, we will not mention what items will be available. Our intention with the Exchange is to provide users with the opportunity to exchange their points for new product items that we see high demand and low supply, but not necessarily with last week's new releases. We hope this brings a long-term value to our valued Goozex members!

New Feedback Score Buyer Trade Slot Restrictions

In the next couple of days we'll but updating our feedback score trade slot restrictions on the buyer side. If you're not sure what I'm talking about you can check out the FAQ on that here:

The new restrictions table will be as follows:

Feedback score b/w 0-9 = 3 trade slots
Feedback score b/w 10-49 = 5 trade slots
Feedback score b/w 50-149 = 10 trade slots
Feedback score b/w 150-299 = 15 trade slots
Feedback score b/w 300-449 = 20 trade slots
Feedback score greater than 450 = 25 trade slots

It's a minor adjustment that we believe will help free up more trades, and in particular for the newer members.

100 Free Points Promo

I just wanted to let you all know that we are trying a new promo this month and giving all new members 100 points upfront so that they can try out Goozex for the first time. For current members, it's ok if you get a request from a member with no feedback for a 100 point game.

For new members, make sure you request 100 point games that are available (over 4,000 titles) in order to spend the points.

The New Goozex Exchange

Coming back by popular demand is the Goozex Exchange. But it’s not going to be like the previous trial versions run earlier this year. The new Goozex Exchange will be available for a lot more games and open all year round under the new “Buy Now” button/section. Here are some important changes:

Most game and movie detail pages will have a new “Buy Now” button and by clicking on that button you will be able to find out if the game is available for the Goozex Exchange
You will be able to exchange in combinations of points and cash for games and movies. The more cash you pay the less points you will spend, and vice versa
Product handling through the Exchange will be managed via reputable online retailers and distributors

You can expect the re-launch to go live by September ’09.

Gamefly button

Hi, I wanted to spend a few words on the new Gamefly button that you see on some game pages.

This is a new partnership that Goozex has set up to provide an additional service to Goozex gamers. When you signup for the Gamefly free trial using the Goozex link, you get access to the 15-day free rental service from Gamefly that allows you to try any game from their inventory (more than 6,000 games available): a great way to get a new release when you are at the bottom of the queue on Goozex!

In addition, every new trial subscription helps Goozex a little bit. So you get to try the game you are looking for, and you contribute to keeping Goozex running!

The Gamefly button is avaialble only on the Goozex game pages for those games that are available in Gamefly's inventory.

Search for title, "Exact match"

This is an important update to the Advanced Search function for both games and movies:

In the past it was always a problem looking for short titles (e.g. the movie "300", the movie "m", or a "star wars" game). In fact, the system would find all titles that contained the keyword in them, regardless of position. So for "m" it would find around 64,000 movies.... not really easy to go through.

Now we have the "Exact Match" option in the Advanced Search. With this selected, the system will find only those titles that match exactly what you have entered. So if you search for "m" it will find only 3 movies!

This works in the Advanced Search: look for the drop-down menu on the right side of the search input text, at the top.
