Sometimes it is the fault of the makers of the item as well.

I recently got 30 Rock from Goozex and it was pristine and seemed to work.  I left feedback and then when I started watching I noticed a few episodes won't play and are completely skipped over.

Again, the DVD's are perfect and it's not the sellers fault but upon looking up feedback on Amazon, it seems to be a common issue with that particular season of the show.

Ghostworld is a solid Goozer though, I'd definitely trust her take on things and it seems she was very honest and upfront saying everything was perfect and it's not necessarily your fault in the matter.

This is crazy!  So many people saying they've received games/movies that were either missing or not working... of all the games I've bought new in my lifetime (probably hundreds), I've never been surprised with an empty case or defective item... which is probably why I always leave positive (and most of the time, a tip) before I open the game.  Sure, I'll probably get burned at some point on Goozex for this, but oh well.

OP, I wouldn't let this stop you from sending new games.  Just wait until it is resolved, then make your decision.  I'm going to bet that Goozex sides with both you and the buyer.  And if not, realistically, what are the chances that something like this would ever happen to you again?

I've sent new games before, and made a point to open and test them just in case.  Used to think this was just being paranoid - but this thread helps to justify that behavior.

If you buy something that is supposed to be new and there is a quality issue (which does happen), you can return it to the store.  When trading away games at Goozex, you are the store.  If anything is wrong with the product you are the one responsible to provide the buyer a refund.

Since there is no benefit in sending something still wrapped, but a potential (if uncommon) downside to not testing your product, it makes sense to take the 10 minutes require to open, inspect, and test the product before completing the trade.

I remember one time we bought a DVD from Walmart, don't remember the name of it, we took it home and tried watching it. NOTHING came up, was completely blank. Took it back to Walmart, they tested it in one of their floor models and the same thing happened, and we walked out with a new copy in hand.

We also had another issue with a new DVD, Shrek the 3rd. It would not play in any of the DVD players or PCs, the main menu would load but that was it. Took it back for a new one and that one had the same issue. Third time was the charm. Not sure if it was a bad press lot or what.

So this can happen to factory sealed movies.

Pressing issues happen all the time.  Best one I can think of is my friend got  Metallica - Garage Inc on release day, came out of the store, put it in the cd player, and there were no vocals.  The entire cd was instrumental.  Him being the dumbass he was though, he took it back into the store and got a new one.  I would have loved to had the instrumentals :(

wow, talk about a sweet collector's item that probably ended up in the trash bin behind the counter eventually.....[:'(]

Funny this would come up today as yesterday I was at my favorite pawn shop and picked up a mint copy of a game with the intent to trade it out on Goozex.  This particular shop shrinkwraps their games and the case was mint and I could tell that the manual and everything was in it, and they are really good about not putting out scratched items, but I figured I should open it and make sure it was good.  So I installed it and ended up playing it for a bit... now I'm gonna keep it, at least for a while.  This thread has only reinforced that it is always worth it to test your games, even the new ones.  I've considered buying 360 games when I've seen them in the bargain bins or at a second hand store but since I don't have a 360 and can't test them, even the new ones, I never have (and now never will).

Good luck to both parties on this one, sounds like a factory dud that is nobody's fault.

I have received sealed games and lazily left positive feedback without even opening the games for a week or more. Not to mention I left tips for them as well. I'd really feel like an @** for leaving positive feedback and a tip for a game I couldn't play. Maybe I should rethink my strategy.

These problems are popping up everywhere lately.  I know I've taken to buying games used for cash on other sites rather than spending money on points here, for this exact reason.

Can't Goozex just make it so the points are held in limbo between traders until both sides are satisfied?  Blatantly flaunting that you get points as soon as you confirm shipment just encourages these cases, and also makes people claim they've shipped before they actually have.

Edit: I realize in this instance there was no scammer. Didn't mean to imply that.

I once got a brand new copy of Final Fantasy VIII from Toys R Us, It would randomly crash rather frequently.  Manufacturing errors happen. Every so often a retail store will get something like a box of crackers that's sealed but is completely empty.

One key thing to remember:  This is not a retail sales site. As such, no one should be expecting a sealed item delivered on their request.  If any seller decides to send a sealed item, and forgoes testing the item,  then the seller assumes responsibility for the item's functionality.

It works that way until a trader has posted a few consecutive positive trades.  At that point it's assumed the trader is trustworthy and is allowed to receive the points when they ship a game out.

There are some people that would like to see the system only give points on positive feedback.  The problem is you're slowing down the transfer of points/Goozex economy and there would be fewer trades.  Plus some people can get fairly impatient waiting for positive feedback to get their points as it is - there would be alot more of that going around as well.

As far as sealed games, I always open mine and test the item before sending anything out.  I've never once come across an issue where a sealed item doesn't play, but i've heard more than enough horror stories.

I look it like this: You send a sealed item hoping that you may receive a 50 point tip.  What's more important, a small chance at an extra 50 points or making sure a 500 - 1000 point transaction (and your trader rep) is secure?
