I bought a psp, about 30 games, and 10 or so umd's from the pawn shops and flea market right before I started a job in the gulf. I was on a boat for 28 days and off for 2 weeks at a time. I started out playing it a lot. But even being on a boat for a month at a time I slowed down considerably eventually. It wasn't for lack of variety. It is great at first in my opinion but doesn't compare to a console. I recently sold mine to gamestop which actually had a decent price for it at the time.

Haven't touched it in months. Not worth it even compared to the consoles I rarely play.

I play my PSP mostly on Sundays that are slow work days. Also through stupid hour lunches.  Other than that, it just sits there. I would say I probably play mine 5 times a month for an hour or two each.

The PSP is like a gun, it's better to have one and not need it then need it and not have it. Pizza

You should pitch that to Sony for their marketing campaign.

They have done worse.

So, I've decided to pick up the PSP, mostly for the same reasons that I picked up the PS3 - It's got some games that I want to play, but it can also be used for media, which will probably be what I use it for the most.

Question - I found a 1000 model that is in perfect shape and a 2000 model that is in perfect shape for the same price on Craigslist.  The only difference is that the 1000 model comes with a 32GB card included.  I don't plan on doing anything that cannot be spoken about on the forums.  Taking that into consideration, which of the two is recommended?  Is there really a difference?

The psp 2000 is lighter, has a manual open umd tray, and there is video out to the tv.

One's slim and one isn't is the only difference I know. I like my psp 1000 personally, but I personally don't think I play ANY of my consoles enough, but that's simply because I play MMO's and have almost every console anyway.

However. I do love a lot of psp games. patapon 1 and 2 are a WHOLE lot of fun, and not expensive just for starters.

I ignored my PSP-1000 for about three years. By the time I was allured by the mighty green PSP-3000 I had a Q of epic proportions to keep my gamer needs sated.

Suffice to say, if you're just now getting a PSP, there's a lot of stuff you can keep occupied with. Systems are really only boring to those who've had them the longest.

Same price? Then definitely get the 2000, pretty big difference really.

Just picked up a PSP for shesnrice (along with VC2, Ys: VII (for me)).  I hope she likes lilac purple...sadly that used to be the colour of our walls when we first bought our house.

I'm much the same way as you, working full time and I have my son every other week, so my play time is similar, maybe a little more.  Honestly, I have all the systems and the PSP gets the least playtime of all of them.  When I first got it I thought it was awesome but it quickly wore off.  Jeanne D'Arc probably got the most playtime out of all the games I played but the system itself just bothers me.  I tend to play a handheld either in my car on my lunch break at work or lying down in bed at night until I get sleepy.  The PSP is off the list right away for the car because it just isn't bright enough in sunlight even in the car.  At night it just feels too heavy in my hand compared to my DS Lite and the controls are uncomfortable.  When you add in the load times from the UMDs on top of that I would much rather play my DS since I can get awesome turn-based strategy games (Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea DS have been on lately) and enjoy it in more places and with better controls that don't kill my hands.  I really don't think I'd play my PSP much even if I didn't have my DS.  That's my two cents anyways, I'm sure other people love there PSPs, but for me, I regret buying it.

People keep saying a PSP isn't worth it, but I started keeping a list of games I want for it and it's just getting out of control:

Main games I want-

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (new side-scrolling mega man game with cool graphics), Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops & Peacewalker, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth

Fun games I'd buy if I already had a PSP-

Metal Slug Anthology, God of War Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta, Little Big Planet, PixelJunk Monsters (only $10 new), Patapon 2 (only $10 new), Loco Roco 2 (only $10 new), The Warriors (PS2 port, also only $10 new, always wanted to play this), Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions

Other interesting games worth looking into-

Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, Shadow of Destiny, Star Ocean: Second Evolution (remake of Star Ocean 2), Breath of Fire 3 (PS1 port), Crush

Games I'd download from the PlayStation Network:

Final Fantasy 7/8/9, Parasite Eve, Ehrgeiz, Einhander, Trine

That's just a TON of games.  For $170 for the system new, then only $10-20 for each game new or used, it seems like a ton of value in such a small package.  And I spend a lot of time out of my house, so hey.

I have not used my PSP for gaming in probably over a year. I use it to watch movies when I am on a train or plane so it's always in my bag. Nothing like carrying around a dozen memory cards and a PSP instead of DVDs and a DVD player.

In addition to what the previous posters said, the 2000 has 64MB of RAM compared with 32 on the 1000, which means a bit faster loading times.  On the other hand, a real 32gb Memory Stick Pro Duo is a pretty nice thing to have (I think they originally sold 32MB cards with some PSP 1000s, so I'd be careful!).

Most of the full sized games you can get from the PSN are between 500-1500mb, though most are less than 1gb, so 32gb should be plenty.

Also, before you buy I'd go to a Gamestop or somewhere similar and play with each psp model to see how they feel.

I got a PSP 3000 last Christmas, but I don't play it much anymore. I usually play it when I have less then half an hour to play before I go somewhere, which is when I just pull out GTA and cause some havoc. XD. I prefer my new 360, but the PSP is what I take with my DS when I go places for a long time.
