I just wanted to get a real gauge of how often these things are failing. When viewing the posts about the YLOD, of course it seems like everyone's has failed. However, I've not had a single problem with mine. Weird since I have two shedding dogs. I even periodically open up the unit and it is always clean inside.
mine still working great ... on my 3rd 360 though

Just to get an idea. Obviously not everyone that has a failure reports it there. And not everyone that reports it there gets included (I posted my failure but my name didn't make the list for whatever reason).

Mine works great and gets used all the time. I feel it's more luck of the draw than anything else, especially when a friend of mine has already gone through 2 slims.

What exactly is your friend doing to them?
I have a 60GB that I picked up about a year ago. No problems yet, but it doesn't get as much use as my 360's.

Yeah mine broke a few months ago, and I have yet to have the money to replace it yet. I plan on it and according to Sony the YLOD isn't a very common problem. I am almost positive I will be getting a slim as I don't want to risk going through the whole YLOD thing again. Besides my launch PS2 with HDD is still running just fine.

Playing them A LOT. I mean A L-O-T, he is currently out of work and has been gaming constantly. He's supposed to start a new job in a couple weeks so I assume he'll stop burning up game consoles at that point
In order:
1) Original 60GB bought preowned from eBay end of 2007 (~$450 w/HDMI, 2 controllers, 2 games). Developed issues with freezing during specific games (GTA4, Oblivion, etc). Called Sony at the end of 2008 - known issue and got a free replacement.
2) Refurb 60GB from Sony at the end of 2008. No issues until the beginning of 2010 when it got YLOD. Performed home repairs 3x (each lasting about a week before it would YLOD again), then bought a 120GB slim and used the Data Transfer Utility to move all content from 60GB to 120 GB. Sold failing 60GB for a new 360 Arcade.
3) 120 GB beginning of 2010 - still going strong...

MS said that about the RROD too.
I bought mine in 07. It is a 60gb ps3 with thousands of hours and is still running strong. I burnt out my last projector and am on a second one but the ps3 is great. I just bought a 360 slim to give it a break since I was using it 12-14hrs a day. when I'm not playing games on it I'm playing movies on it.

Well yeah but Sony is large multinational corporation, they wouldn't LIE. (i assume I don't need to put the little "rolls eyes" smiley)
Still working fine, however, my original was bricked by one of the updates (late 2007 I believe) and replaced under warranty. I haven't had any problems since then however.
Purchased new 60 GB Jan '07. Yellow light Aug '07. Got a refurbished one from Sony a few weeks later that is still in operation 3 years later, but about two weeks ago it started moaning like a whore. I fear the inevitable is on the horizon. P.S. It gets vacuumed and backed up about once a month.
I had a disc related error on mine. Basically it just couldn't read discs anymore. Got it repaired and it works like a charm. Yes, it sucks hard. Very expensive out of warranty.
I walked into the UPS store and the guy behind the counter said, "Oh it's a PS3". He said they get them about once or twice a week. He also said they get xboxs once or twice a day. So I'm not too upset by this. Hope my 360 continues working....
