Looking for some new stuff to play when I'm done with mgs4/uncharted. Hoping for some horror stuff. Last game that scared me was Doom 3 but those were a lot of pop out moments.
How about for you all?
Also, the main reason I'm asking is that I really have my sights on no games for the points I have currently.
Dead Space and Condemned have some pretty good moments
Doom 3 was scary since so much of it was in pitch black. I guess Deadspace is up there although I never finished it. I finished Deadspace for WII and that was pretty scary and fantastic.
Gary Johnson For President 2012!
Silent Hill: Homecoming wasn't bad.
Looks like I may be adding Dead Space to my requests list. One of my friends pretty much still wont shutup about it.
Yeah I'd have to go with Deadspace as well, the atmosphere was just really well done. Lately though scary games seem few and far between. Too many games rely on "jump" moments instead of setting a good mood and atmosphere. The DarkFall games for PC are good for setting a creepy atmosphere but even then they aren't "scary".
RE4 was pretty scary
Barney's Hide and Seek, man that stuff is scary!
Clive Barker's Undying (PC) and Fatal Frame 2 (last gen consoles) were two of the scariest I've played. Recent games - yeah, probably Dead Space is the closest. It wasn't super scary, but it was really good.
Fatal Frame IV for Wii is pretty great especially if you can get the USA Translation pack
Deadly Premonition, goofy ResEvil-esque controls and dark, claustrophobic spaces build some serious tension. Plus that soundtrack is pure excellence.
FEAR - game had some good moments, though I haven't played the second one. That Alma girl gave me the heebie jeebies
Dead Space - great atmosphere, and space always kinda scares me anyways (thanks Event Horizon)
Resident Evil 4 - couple jumpy moments, but great Wii game
I think what sucks most about my question is what we define as scary. I remember playing fear for the first time and jumping at all the jumpy points. Same as in Doom. I just kind of wonder where the truly scary games are, the ones that you get so into you shudder at the thought of traversing some unfamiliar area. I think I was pretty damn freaked when I was playing Fear 2 on a 73", in the dark, by myself and I went down the hallway of lockers for the first time. It was pretty epic and filled with O.O moments and pants crapping.
Penumbra: Black Plague
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Pathologic
Silent Hill 2
This goes back a way, but the first time I remember being really creeped out by a game to the point where I didn't want to play it alone at night was Sanitarium for the PC. I don't know if it was supposed to be that scary, but it gave me the creeps. Doom 3 had its jump out moments for me too, but the scariest moment in that game was when I was playing in my apartment at night in pitch black with my headphones on when my wife got out of bed to go the bathroom and when I couldn't hear her calling my name, she came up behind me and touched my shoulder. I was so deep into the game at that moment that I jumped up and b!tch screamed like I never have and probably never will. She still teases me about it 6 years later.
