I have a package (DVD boxset) ready to send out, but when I look on the USPS site it states nothing over 13oz can go First-class. My question is if I can't send it First class then what should I send it as.

Since you are sending DVDs, you can opt to send them via Media Mail.  Media Mail is insanely slow, but it's dirt cheap.  As long as you're not sending to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico, the game should still arrive before the trade deadline.

Priority Mail is another option, but it is more expensive.  It will arrive in the same time frame that a package mailed First Class would arrive.

Parcel Post or Media Mall if you mind them waiting.  Priority Mail will get to them faster.

How long a wait is Media mail? I've never sent anything MM before only FC. I know FC is around 3 - 4 days is MM much longer than that?

It's not going all that far. It should only take a few more days, at most. From my experience, Media Mail doesn't really take all that much longer than First Class. Just make sure to get DC so you have proof you sent it if it takes longer than expected.

It depends on your distance from the sorting facility that they'd use.  All Media Mail packages have to go through a sorting facility before they're shipped to their final destination.  It varies, and it often means your package has to travel in the wrong direction for a little bit before it's on course.

The USPS's shipping calculator says six days from 90210 to 98101.  (Those are the only California and Washington zip codes I know by heart... Haha.)  Priority Mail is estimated as two days.

i would just notify the buyer that you're shipping MM, so long as you have DC everything SHOULD be golden; I say should because of some questionable things i've heard about lately

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

Yeah, send it Media Mail and let the buyer know. Otherwise, anything above 13oz gets forced to use Priority, so you'll be looking at $10+ for shipping.

Ironically enough, First class international goes up to 16oz (at least it did the last time I was walking someone through an international trade).

Correction... you can go to 64oz with FCI.

Some people hate media mail for some reason.  I think it's great.  It can take from 2-10 days usually, though I've sent packages across the country in 5 days.  Since it's by the pound, it allows me to use well padded boxes, instead of bubble mailers for the same price.  As a buyer I'd be more than happy waiting 2-3 more days on a fragile boxset shipped in a box than getting it quicker but in a bubble mailer.

I think Media Mail is fine for Goozex (or any other trading site, really).  I think I was overly harsh on it in my post because you're generally forced out of using it on marketplace sites like eBay and Amazon.

Buyers on those sites tend to see "Shipping Speed" and think "Delivery Speed", so even if you ship out your package within 15 minutes of placing the order, you'll still get docked in your feedback because it arrived in six days.  It's frustrating, especially when those sites don't allow enough shipping to cover the cost of the quicker services.

Good thing we have Goozex.
