I'm considering upgrading my PS3 with a 500GB internal hard drive (It's one of the original Fat 60GB models) for about $150 for the hard drive and memory transfer/installation. I was just wondering if it would just be better to buy a new Slim 250GB model for $350? I like having the choice of having the backwords compatability with th Fat PS3 (even though I never use it), but fear that it is going to just die on me one day and be worthless. Any suggestions? If I do the upgrade, how much longer do you think it will last before it dies?

You know, most PS3s won't just die on you, so you should be safe upgrading to a 500Gb. I have a launch 60Gb with a 500Gb upgrade and it's on all the time. No problems.

I have a original 60gb ps3 manufactured Dec 06. It has an average of 8-12 hrs a day since 07 when i got it. I watch movies when not playing. I bought a 64gb ssd hd and put it in. I've been worried about the same thing for a while. I just recently bought a 360 slim to be able to play some of the exclusives and give the ps3 a much needed break. I have a many thousands of hours on it. I burned out my last projector and am on a second one but the ps3 is still running strong.

It's your choice.

I had 2 60gb PS3 with Disc-Reading Error.  I'm on my third 60gb PS3 since April 2008.

Just upgrade it. You have the elite in PS3 models if you have a good PS collection. Plus it will be cheaper to just upgrade.
