I still don't understand how exactly MS managed to convince all its users that it was a good idea to pay for multiplayer. It's the only place you have to pay for such a service, and it's not THAT much better than everything else. The other "perks" you get can be had elsewhere, like the aforementioned PlayOn.

That sucks Playon doesnt work well for you; I'm a very happy customer; i just wish Hulu kept more than 5 episodes deep.
mafafu:PlayOn sucks for me - horrible quality video - everything is pixelated (my pc is plenty strong enough and I hardwire to my systems)
Yes, PlayOn is limited to Hulu non-HD feeds for now. They are working on it - having Hulu native to PS3/360 in 720p would trump them.

Hulu in HD on my monitor = golden.
Hulu via PlayOn on my 55" TV = low res.
I actually prefer to watch on my monitor.
mafafu:We are obviously all just gullible asshats
True.
I'd disagree that the service is a LOT better. The interface is a bit friendlier, but strictly concerning MP gaming, it's about 1:1 to me. I've had both fun and problems with both services.
I do agree with PlayOn though. Mine worked wonderfully for a day, then puttered out. The need to keep my PC running in addition to a console made it even less appealing. Finally rebuilding my HTPC put the final nail in that coffin.
PS2 had limited free MP, though I mostly just remember SOCOM personally. 360 was lucky to get out of the gate first this generation to get away with it; otherwise the free offerings of PS3 and Wii would have looked even better on paper, possibly swaying some sales. It's a shame they haven't reduced the cost themselves some, but with people paying, I suppose there's no point.
Xbox certainly has better sales when it comes to electronic content though, but generally only with Gold membership. These cuts with PS+ might even that out some as their offerings increase.
I'm still not sold on the service yet, but it might become a bit more attractive down the road when there are cuts to more titles and more to offer outside of a free game here and there. Hulu would be a killer addition. And I do enjoy Qore videos, so I suppose I could justify half the cost right there. I'm not falling for the trick year 2 though without some better perks, but I will be keeping an eye on this.

For those of you with issues using PlayOn, were you running it through your PS3 or your Xbox? Also Kenny, there was a bug where if you had a disc in the PS3 it caused PlayOn to lockup. I'm not sure if it's been fixed, but I generally don't have a disc in when I'm using it.
As far as the Hulu quality, I have no complaints. I couldn't efficiently stream HD video over the wireless in any case, as I only have a Wireless G setup, and no concrete plans to upgrade to Wireless N. My Hulu stream through PlayOn looks just fine on my plasma.
Mafufu, I think we'll just have to disagree on the quality of the service on the 360 vs the PS3. It's better, sure, but for what I use it for, not markedly better.

Used PlayOn on PS3 and it is just not very good, not to mention it is a resource hog when running.
It's not my fault you don't have friends to talk to on XBox Live. Maybe you'd get more out of it if you spelled their usernames correctly.

PS3. I don't recall the error, this was something I fiddled with mere months after getting the console last year, but it was a generic 'can't find media' error of some sort. This happened with both Netflix and Hulu content. CS just gave me the run around. I gave up after a week.
I think Sony have a winner on their hands. Or have you forgotten how much you pay for things these days?
$50 will just about pay for an evening for two at the flicks in new york if you include a drink and snack. It won't buy you a new release game. Looking at what's available at launch I'm encouraged and will most likely subscribe. I'll be playing wipeout shortly.
I have spent most of my money on women and beer. The rest I just wasted....

I get that error with all streaming media intermittantly, whether Playon, local, etc. It's a bug with the PS3.
I was going to buy wipeout hd because its one of the few 3d games available. So in my mind i actually only dropped $30 for the 15 months which feels like a great deal.
I already paid for Wipeout HD

$30 from someone about to drive a Maserati is pocket change.
