The $1 trade tokens would go up before Goozex folded. When I started in November 2008 (i think) there was about 2K less trades going on at any given time then there are now. Plus they get some money for the adds on the forums.
I'm not that concerned.
I haven't been trading here for very long, but this seems to be a concern that keeps popping up without sufficient justification to move beyond a "what if..." scenario.
The costs for running the Goozex website aren't massive, and are presumably covered in part by advertising revenue. Although active trade numbers make me doubt that the site is (currently) a wild success story where everyone involved has already retired rich, I also doubt that it's a financial flop.
My suggestions to anyone worried about the health of Goozex are simple:
(a) keep trading -- If you have games, trade them; if you have points, spend them. Goozex benefits in both cases, and we benefit from the service that Goozex provides. It's really a win-win situation.
(b) don't confuse a desire to grow with financial trouble -- Of course Goozex will look for ways to stimulate increased trading. That's smart business when they profit from each trade made.
(c) recommend Goozex to others if you like the service -- Without trying to sound like a pyramid scheme, the more people who use Goozex the more financially viable the service becomes to maintain.
Of course that's just one opinion. Seems better to look on the bright side than to be all doom and gloom about something that is purely based on speculation.
I love the fact that we are having this discussion during a month when Goozex is letting people trade current gen games for free.
Invariably, this topic always seems to get brought up at least once every time Goozex runs a sale and every time things have worked out for the best.
From when I started trading in 2008 til now, the site has shown steady growth in trading volume and seems to bring in quite a few new members. Personally, i'm not concerned with the bottom falling out any time soon.

I had searched for a discussion about this topic before my original post, but came up empty handed. I'm interested in where those other discussions went--links would be appreciated.

Searching the forums is exhausting at times ... but suffice to say that since Day 1 of Forum History (which was *well* after the site launched) there have been discussions about 'what if Goozex failed', 'Goozenomics', 'Point Inflation', and on and on and on and on ...
Not only that, since that very first day there have been threads about (a) is Goozex slowing down and dying? (b) *THIS* is how Goozex should do things (implicit ... or they will die) and (c) if Goozex makes (X) change I will leave / they will die.
If Goozex died tomorrow and I lost my 40,000 points ... I'd be more sad for the loss of the site than for the points - I've been here almost 4 years and have *definitely* gotten enough value that 40k points is a mere pittance.

I'd say Goozex is making a comfortable living since the system is all cash in, no cash out.

This.
Without going into details, remember that the G-Team consist mostly of the owners of the site and their family members. Most of them have real jobs as well. The site has no huge financial burden to its employees or contractors that would cause them to "go under."

lol, every time you post your current point total my head spins.
I was actually shocked that super trader G-Nitro only has 10k...though I'm sure that's constantly rising and falling.
I just spent about 5k in a week and a half and I'm happily back in the 4-5k range.
EDIT: The increase in packages incoming in the mail is always a plus as well. Who doesn't like getting things in the mail?!

The thread names elude me, but txa did remind me of a recent example:
txa1265:(c) if Goozex makes (X) change I will leave / they will die.
That brought back a recent memory: A poll to see if people were interested in changing the system to where the buyer pays for shipping.

I started innocently enough and the idea was being shot down at a rapid fire pace and people were using objective reasoning. From the proposed change people start assuming the reason was because Goozex needed the money (from the prepaid shipping labels) which transitioned into speculation of financial collapse.
