Steamworks, not Steam.

Wonder whatever happened to the PS3 being a waste of time?
Doesn't really do anything for me either way since I'm not interested in Portal and I already have a PC. I'm sure the console legions would appreciate being given an updated version of TF2, though.
Also, Steamworks and Steam are not the same thing?
mrkekeru: Wonder whatever happened to the PS3 being a waste of time?
Two years ago I would have said the PS3 was on it's way out. But two years later and after watching Microsoft's E3 showing, I think Microsoft is being shown the door.
/Also, on Microsoft's E3 presentation... What was with that homeless looking guy? Honestly, I get it. Kids like rebels! Unkempt! But you need to draw the line at homeless crack dealer.

Bags of cash have a way of changing people's minds.
Progression of Gabe Newell's comments regarding PS3 development:
2007: PS3 is a horrible system. Sony should just scrap it and go back to the drawing board.
2008: It's a bad system and nobody is buying it. We have no interest in developing for it.
2009: We don't believe the PSN community is the right fit for the games we produce.
2010: We are developing Portal 2 on PS3 and it will be the best of the console versions.
After the years of negative comments, my jaw actually dropped seeing Gabe walk on stage during the Sony's E3 conference. I completely expected him to yell "Got'cha!!" after the Portal 2 showing.
Apparently the "VP of sharpening things" Kevin Butler can be a persuasive man....
...and bags of cash always help.

Similar to how Kojima always denigrated 360, yet has been at their last 2 conferences. They can all be bought and sold.
Maybe it's in part to do with the fact that people are just really getting to grips with what the cell processor can do.
With time comes understanding and eventually wisdom. Maybe he just saw the light one day
I have spent most of my money on women and beer. The rest I just wasted....

When was this? I though Kojima never really had a strong stance one way or the other on Xbox development - especially since MGS2 was on the original Xbox many moons ago.
...and you're right most devs are perfectly happy as long as they are being paid. It's just few are as bold with their comments about other platforms as Gabe was over recent years.

Most likely has something to with a larger PS3 user base in 2011 compared to 2007; more potential customers and all that.
It'll be years before they harness that beast. Then another decade before they can unleash its true power.

Kojima was well documented as saying MGS games wouldn't be on 360, and I'll bet chances are he had nothing to do with the port of MGS games to the original xbox. those were released many moons after they were released for sony.

the article originally said steam not steamworks. My apologies
