The movie Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise was; in my opinion, just like the films attempt at Adolf Hitlers assassination, a failure. This films trailers and advertisements portrayed it to be one of the more action packed films of the year, when in reality it was the complete opposite. The only scene containing action or enough suspense to keep you interested is the opening title scene.

If a movie does not contain any true action, comedy, or horror it must contain good acting and direction in order to keep the audiences attention. Valkyrie lacked greatly in each of these departments. For instance, how could a movie about German Officers and ***, contain men speaking english; in perfect american and even british accents? This evident and easily avoidable problem was one that caused the movie to lose any sense of realism that it had. Atop the Tom Cruise led nosedive into mediocrity, the director, Bryan Singer should have explained more. There are many times in the movie; when a British sounding "Nazi" says one thing and then is contradicted within seconds.

The only thing this film has going for it is a suspenseful soundtrack that can add to the mood of would be suspense. This movie is recommended to be avoided unless a true History or Tom Cruise fan.

Please make this thread more enjoyable than wetwillie's horrible thread. You seem to be off to a good start by not giving every movie you review a 10/10.

I enjoy wet willies thread, however i mentioned in his that i am much more strict. It would be interesting for him and I to watch the same flicks once and a while and compare reviews. I am very very picky. and i will never give a 10/10, because that means its perfect. and nothings perfect. Ill write my evil dead one and my Leprechaun 5: In Da Hood reviews today !

thanks!

Mafafu is exaggerating. Out of 211 ratings, only 35 are perfect 10's. I give more 9s and 9.5s if anything. But nobody would know that anyway, because I don't use scores anymore.

However, I don't like the idea that you'll never give a 10, because what's the point of having a 10 point scale if there's never going to be a perfect score. And there are perfect, or almost perfect, movies out there anyway. I think Casablanca and Pulp Fiction are both perfect.

I will give a 9.9, but i will never give a ten. In my eyes there is always room for improvement. If there is one spoof, one slip up, than it is not perfect. If there is one weak spot (acting, music, anything, it is not perfect). So i will give close to perfect, but never perfect.

Well there's our first disagreementStick out tongue.

Say you were watching Inglourious Basterds and at one moment, you can't quite read one of the subtitles. For that, you wouldn't give the movie a perfect score even if you loved everything else about it?

I only say this because of the fact that you'll downgrade a score for something like music, which in my opinion is ridiculous.

I also don't give 9.9s or 7.4s or anything like that. I'm sure if I did I'd probably end up with more 9.9s than 10s.

Music is an essential part of a motion picture, There is a reason they give away Oscars for score and song. You have your own thread to slather praise on movies, let this user have his more critical thread.

Wetwillies -

This is not your thread and without having any helping criticism towards the OP of how to improve such review or applaud for doing a job well done entertaining and informing us, there is absolutely no reason for you to be here. You obviously have no sense in movies and what good and hard work truly is. Even the more smaller things are sometimes what makes something beautiful. Go outside for once and learn a thing or two about what goes into production of a movie and how there is always ways to improve. Producers, actors, directors, and crew are all under stressful criteria including time and money budget. Nobody is able to do everything they wanted in the movie and therefore not making it perfect. How hypocrite this statement may seem, I am not trying to offend you, but reviewing something, or set of objects, and ending with everything having an A+ grade is not the correct way of going about things. As a reader, how am I to compare one thing to another if I'm only going by your review which had stated that one thing was on par with another. It's okay to express your opinions and right of literature through your reviews, I'm just saying that over time, I will lack the moral to even read a review of yours if I know what the final review score is going to be.

Back to OP... I do applaud with you taking over the reviewing of movies and being informing to us all. I appreciate you suffering through the bad movies to tell me to stay away. Keep them coming and I'll keep reading. Yes

Evil Dead

1981

Evil dead, a cult classic and for a damn good reason. This films use of the traditional effects, make the gore much more gruesome and believable than cgi. The fx team had used things as simple as oatmeal, and it created a better effect than anything that has come out today. The acting was melodramatic to say the least, and that is what made it so damn good. For anyone who has played the original resident evil would know, there is something hilarious, and charming to the exagerated acting. This film perfectly mixes comedy, with suspense, and some old school gore and horror.

If you have the chance to see this in a indie theater revival it is a must. The 20 minutes of 70s and 80s grindhouse trailers was simply amazxing.

The only complaints I could see anyone having with the movie is if they couldnt appreciate the acting style of the movie. I seriously recommend this to anyone who is a horror fan, or anyone who just enjoys movies in general.

This film trying to be bad and use cliche lines, makes it funny.

It turns its cons into its pros.

However the ending to me felt like a slight cop out, and the special effects of the "moving" tree were a bit weak, good for their time, but not enough in these days for effects besides makeup. In addition to this there was no exceptional music. I mean there was a basic score to set the mood, but no 28 weeks later/sunshine, requiem for a dream memorable soundtracks. Nothing to build the suspense, but silence.

Ill give it a  8.8

Coming up soon is Lucky Number Slevin, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Kick-Ass,
