Keep trying Amazon and the other online retail stores, if nowhere local has them.  They actually receive shipments quite often, but they sell out again very fast, and in the case of Amazon, you're left with other companies selling them through Amazon for $369.95 or higher.  When Amazon actually has them in stock, they sell for the normal retail price.

ArQuesta, I'm not going to say that it's wrong to upset retail people.

What I am going to say is that if they don't test it originally, they probably never will -- and then a gamer will go in and buy your broken console and be sad.

YOU JUST HURT A GAMER WITH YOUR EVIL.

But yeah, just wanted to add two things to this convo:

1. Depending on where you are in the US, if you are in the US, there has been a shortage in SOME AREAS in the US. This means in BRICK & MORTAR stores, not online. However, it's kind of a toss-up as to where exactly these shortages are going to happen/have happened. You just have to find out by going to the store in your area and discovering whether they have one of the few stockpiles left in the US. It's sad to see indeed, but whatchagonnadew?

2. I've had my PS3 for 2 years now, left it on and running for upwards of 12-15 hours at times, and while I've had a few small problems here and there like games freezing and shutting themselves off, returning to the XMB or even just shutting the system off entirely, for the most part it's run solid and been an unstoppable force for good. This leads me to question how so many people can have so many weird, stupid problems with their PS3's. Oh believe me, I don't blame you -- I have some friends who have had stupid problems as well, but I've never experienced any of these problems myself (knock on wood) so these issues just seem so weird to me. Regardless, personally, since I've gotten 2 good years out of it, if it were to die today I'd probably send it in to be repaired for $150...I love my big black monster, even if it does only have a 40 GB HDD. Smile

That's another thing I notice. I've seen these problems happen most often with: 60 gig, 120 gig, and 80 gig systems more often than any others. To my recollection I've only seen it happen to ONE 40 gig. Leads me to question whether the 40 gigs were just built better or something. Huh?

Hmm...here's the thing though. GameStop and other video game resellers are required to send a PS3 in to be refurbished regardless of the condition, the hard-drives have to be professionally wiped for some reason and thus the employees have to send every PS3, regardless of the condition, in to a refurb center. While it's there the defect would be discovered and repaired, thus the returned PS3 would be in working condition and thus no gamer would be hurt in the process of getting rid of a dead system.

Also, even if, for whatever reason, the PS3 was then sold to another customer they have seven days to bring it back and say "WTH, this doesn't work!" and get a full refund or 30 days to get the system replaced so no foul there. Used game/system resellers make a huge profit margin so there's no real suffering there. Also, I worked GameStop once and out of boredom one day I tested all twenty of our used DS's because they were always being return. One worked...and that one that worked looked like crap. GameStop didn't care, big deal, they bought them from customers for $40 and resold them for $119, no skin off their backs.

Believe me, real gamers aren't severely loyal to used game retailers and used game retailers suffer from scams because they're scamming silly dumb gamers to begin with. I'm sorry but a 50% used bonus is a load of hogwash and hardly worth the effort yet they sit there and make you think you're getting some epic deal but they still overprice used games and don't give a crap about you as a customer.

Meh, whatever, I'm mean and I hurt the feelings of innocent gamers with my conniving ways. I'm cool with that.

Well, I finally got one. I snagged a 250gb slim from gamestop. I have no idea what to do with my broken 60gb, though. I sent Sony a reasonable email explaining the situation, but they pretty much told me I had to pay $149.

I hear you can still sell them on ebay for a decent amount of money.  Lots of people will buy broken ones and repair them themselves.

If it YLOD'd you may be able to do some at home repairs to get it up and running.  <$50 in materials and a few hours of your time isn't a bad alternative to $150.

Hey Mecha, did you know that for less than $50 and a few hours of your time, you could have a cheap home-repair solution for your YLOD PS3?

Its true! Big Smile
