There's other genes that they're just as good as the consoles on (FPS, RPG), but they clearly dominate on RTS and MMO.

I dispute that FPS or shooters in general are just as good on consoles. There's a reason console players can't play against PC players in online shooters... Wink

I thought I read they did in Shadowrun, and it was indeed one sided, but the opposite of your suggestion. Big Smile  it could have been a blog though, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the outcome between the two forms (assuming the controllers don't get the crutch of auto aim).

EDIT:  It appears the two were able to face off, but PC gamers were handicapped in that auto aim was a console only addition and quick reticule movements suffered a high accuracy penalty (higher sensitivity mice would lose their advantage in favor of slower sticks).

I don't mind playing with controllers, and some are really insanely skilled with them, but the precision and speed is lacking with the sticks that I'm looking for and gets me flustered at times.

RTSs are hands down PC dominated, though I did love C&C on the PSX.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree that FPS is waaaaay easier on a PC then a console.  My point was mostly from a marketing perspective.  Consoles own PCs on that level.  The FPS that are made are ports to PC, and it's a bummer for PC gamers because they should be getting a better product.

On the opposite extreme are RTS and MMO, which are dominated by PC.  PC just does those better, period, and more PC gamers buy those.  When people want action, for whatver reason, they go to consoles.

Wait... the console players did better than the PC players?!! If so, blasphemy I say!! I mean... I know some people are skilled, but REALLY?

EDIT: I just saw your edit. I must say, the console players had an unfair advantage...Super Angry

From what I've read, no, but the game wasn't very popular on either platform so it might not be the best end all case to point to.  I really wish they'd try it again with a better title.  Maybe put Halo 3 into that sort of setup, or another franchise altogether.

I think it would be cool because it would boost the number of players available. Though as the Shadowrun example showed, there is no good way to balance it well. At least, there are none that have been thought of.

Left 4 Dead and L4D2 are the best PC games I've played in years. I also assume from your post that you haven't played Half-Life 2, Team Fortress or Portal. Basically, anything published by Valve.

Warcraft III; story is great with a ton of gameplay and the Frozen Throne expansion adds even more

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

If you like RTSes, you need to play Sins of a Solar Empire. Amazingly fun multiplayer.

It's been said before, but I am really digging Torchlight, Action RPGs are my favorite genre, so that's a given :) Shame there are not that many on consoles.

I disagree, controllers are much easier to use then a mouse. I can't shoot an enemy 500 feet away who just shot me with a sniper rifle 2 seconds ago with a headshot. I can with a controller. In my experienc eI can't play with a mouse and keyboard without auto aim, they ust aren't accurate enough. On the consoles, I disable auto aim as it intrudes on the gameplay. I hate to call someone a noob, but obviously you weren't turning fast enough. Higher your speed settings in game to superfast, you can turn faster then on a mouse as eventually on a mous you need to stop moing and reposition.

I'm not sure where that was aimed, but there's no denying that m/k or controller is strictly a user preference, but the precision isn't really all that debatable.  There are going to be people great with controllers (you it sounds) and those that just squeak by (me).  Could I get 'pro' with a controller in time?  Perhaps, but it's (to me) not as easy as a mouse a keyboard, a mouse offering fine precision that a stick cannot replicate, regardless of how high you turn up your axis'.

Not only that, but I'd wager that mouse and keyboard, though more heavily the mouse half, is far 'easier' than a controller to pick up simply because nearly everyone is familiar with a mouse's use, not so with the controller.  Tell me you haven't seen someone pick a controller for game system X and have them give it that look...like it came from space?  Amusing as hell to a gamer it may be, but it does somewhat prove the point that controllers are a bit more cumbersome to a newer user and harder to adjust to, as they're not as forgiving in the realm of precision.  I can't verify your 'auto aim off' claim, but that weak magnet on your crosshair is in most console shooters for a reason, and even the devs in Shadowrun saw that and the mouse's inherent dominance, and adjusted accordingly.

I wish there were more arenas in which to test this further, but for now Shadowrun is (or was, MS dropped the official servers I think) it.  You shouldn't be able to swing and HS anyone at 500 ft with any regularity...on either platform, and I'm not sure what titles on PC sport Auto Aim/Aim Assist, but it can't be many.  It's certainly not a staple to PC games.  And there's no way a controller stick can be tuned high enough to out pace a mouse that I've seen.  Given the same tweaks (sensitivity cranks) and DPI changes (mouse feature on many gaming mice), a tiny flick of a mouse could have you spinning out of control...lol.

While many will prefer one over the other and argue their personal aptitude towards the input device, I don't think there have been many claims to accurately support the 'Controller is more precise' argument.  It's just preferred by many, but then again, on consoles, what other choice do you really have (yes I'm aware of the 3rd party Kb/M adapters, reviews were mixed on that)?

They are not recent games, but Ground Control 1 and 2 are both solid RTS games.  You can pick up Ground Control 1 for free on fileplanet.
