I'm a little upset your unable to communicate with other members of your faction besides squadmates other than using the back/select button. No one ever really listens to the commands and it's frustrating when your trying to help someone with ammo or health and you can't simply say "HEY, you're about to die, here's some health"
I understand it might've been challenging and maybe not the best to have all 24 players with open voice comm during a match, with all the chatter you'd prob mute most ppl anyway. But I think if they had some sort of radius comm system, so anyone in your immediate area would be able to communicate with you that would've work a lot better
I remember playing some of the older Battlefield games (1942, Vietnam) on PC and loving them. I still have them. I loved them because I could play co-op with a friend in a huge bot war. Do they have this in BFB2, in splitscreen?
Yeah, the "radius" thing would have been kind of nice... you have to rely on other folks paying attention, which isn't always a great course of action...
I feel like some other game I have played before had a feature where non-squadmates in a certain radius could hear you... 2142 maybe? or I could just be misremembering....

Nope... I used to love bot wars in 1942 in college.. me amd my roommate would go like 2 v the CPU and just be so entertained... simpler times...
I do have some recollection of a game with this system or maybe not and I've just come up with an amazing in-game voice comm innovation lol
man, im getting it tommorow

Lame!
Can anyone name a game on PS3 that has splitscreen bot wars like the old Battlefield games, and is kinda cool?
Honestly I like the squad based system. It makes planning attacks easier. Not to mention with the right people in your squad you can own the battlefield. I don't know how many times I have gotten the gold squad pin from being in a good squad.
A radial menu would have been nice but for us console players it seems like it would have slowed down the pace of the action. After all we don't have the luxury of hot keys.
I'm a huge fan of the squad system as well. As long as everyone is worrying about their immediate squadmates, as a whole, you've got a killer team. A way for squad leaders (not that they exist in this title) to coordinate would have been nice though.
The lack of a commo rose is a big hit I think too, as it was a super effective way to communicate in titles past, but I'm slowly getting used to pounding Q. Short of finding a medic or assault guy to point at to ask for health/ammo respectively, it works OK.
My preferred class is Medic. In most games BF2 and prior, I was the medic whenever possible, as getting people back on their feet and keeping them there was the most entertaining to me, not to mention quite useful to the battle as a whole. With 2142, my focus shifted to the Support class, as 2142 actually made LMGs useful. Previous titles made it a pain to hit anything with these guns, but I racked up some crazy kill streaks in this new title.
Imagine how thrilled I was when they gave my beloved Medic a LMG! These things are extremely deadly, and I can even counter snipe with them with relative ease. Heavy hitting with seldom a need to reload, plus my normal medic abilities...the class is OP in my hands.
However, I have recently maxed out my Assault and nearly my Engineer trees and I've found those classes to be quite killer as well. The 40mm nade is almost too easy, but hitting people in the face with the carl rocket launcher never gets old either.
You should really try out that 4v4v4v4 as soon as you can. Granted, it's FAR more interesting when you have a groupd of 4 friends fighting a bunch of other squads, as this is quite an intimate game mode, but it's the most fun I've had in some time, knowing that you and your 3 friends are it on this chaotic battlefield. Medic becomes vital on this mode, as does a solid Engineer when someone nabs that Bradley out from under you.
I need more BC2.

Killzone 2 had this kind of system. Anyone within "earshot" could hear you, whether it was a teammate that wasn't on your squad, or an enemy. Good system, IMO, and I wish it were implemented in more games.

Swwet, thanks for reminding me! It was totally Killzone, and it was a pretty nice feature... I rocked that game for a while, I really dug the online unlock system....
Its an excellent game and has actually torn me away from Modern warfare 2 for now. =)
I agree BFBC2 is great. I love how there are no cheap kills like i had in MW2..i.e. 10 guys running around a warzone knifing people head on through a hail of bullets or akimbo shotgunning everyone else.
Are you playing with a full squad of friends? that's when the gameplay really shines. My PSN is jut22 if anyone wants to squad up.
P.S. I love the M416
One secret I use with the assault class is to use the smoke grenade. A lot of people don't use it and I find it invaluable. You throw down and ammo crate and launch a few smoke grenades and suddenly you can't be seen. When defending or attacking anything this is a huge help! Also it makes a great distraction.
