So I have been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 for about a week and a half now and have about 10 hours of multiplayer under my belt (PS3)... My conclusion is that this game is amazing... some of the things that have made me go "wow" while playing online are below...

Seeing a shelled house start to lean and then collapse while a firefight is going on around it

Watching a HumVee get hit with an RPG at about 50 MPH and doing a double flip through the air while on fire

Seeing a 4-Wheeler just disintegrate when it hauls ass around a corner and hits an Anti-Tank mine

Somehow hitting a chopper in the air with an RPG

Some of the backgrounds look pretty breathtaking as well, the snow levels especially make me think of nice desktop backgrounds

Anyone else been fairly impressed so far?

lol...I did that last night myself while playing with a buddy.  I said "We're going to die you know...hop on knowing the risks" and off we went.

Got about 100m and hit a anti tank mine that was in the shade.  He said "It's alright...you called it."   lol  I hadn't expected to die that soon...

The graphics are pretty great, even on the PS3 they looked tops.  The sound however is what I think I like most in the title, it is truly something to be experienced.  The guns, the yelling around the battlefield, explosions, the creaking of a collapsing building...epic.

And collapsing a house on a squad NEVER gets old.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the sound... it is pretty top notch, and makes me want to get a better sound system... I think that will be my next upgrade at some point...

Are you playing on the PS3 Kenny?  If so, we should squad up sometime... it seems you can really roll in this game with a little communication and the right classes...

I'm on PC myself.  But yes, with communication, a team oriented group of four can win matches.  It takes A LOT of work, but I've been a part of the decisive squad more times than not.

I've also had a chance to prove this fact, as the PC version suffers from a lack of autobalance, so sometimes I'll switch teams after a win if they've become lopsided only to have our squad roll up our former team as well..lol.

I'm pretty sure I read there was NO CO-OP.

I see.  No there is no co-op; unfortunate really as that'd of been another shot against MW2, and the story has a 4 player squad throughout I believe.

yeah, it seems like it would have been easy to make BC2 with some co-op flavor, either with the campaign or some SpecOps type of deal... and I meant grouping up for some online MP... I really want to check out the 4v4v4v4 mode sometime...

I think it would be cool if they had some co-op only vehicle missions or something... flying around and having someone else be the chaingunner is a blast, as is the tank w/ gunner combo...

I have been playing this quite a bit as well. And despite the fact that no one uses their headsets it's pretty easy to communicate by using the back button to let someone know what it is you need or want. The sound is amazing on this game and I'm glad I recently upgraded my system.

What units do you prefer to play as? Me, I'm a jack of all trades, although I'm truly terrible at sniping. If anyone plays this on the 360 and wants to squad up with me sometime hit me up the gamertag is in my sig below. Just let me know who you are or i'm likely to reject your request.

I'm playing on the PC and I must say the single "context-sensitive" "Socialize" button that's meant to replace BF2/BF2142's commo rose (hold a key to open a radial menu wherein you select which prerecorded message you want your avatar to say in-game), just can't hold a candle to it.  "Need medic", "thanks", "sorry", "need ammo", all that stuff was available in a split-second once you got used to the controls, and you could do it while running away from trouble.  The single button in BC2 that's dependent on aiming your crosshair at something to provide context (e.g., you have to be in LOS and point at a Medic to say, "Need medic!") is just awful compared to what the same team designed 4-5 years ago.  A team- and squad- and class-based game like this absolutely needs that level of communication and you can really tell that even though they designed some really good PC-dedicated stuff in there, they missed this opportunity to avoid the downfalls of consolization.

In order of awesomeness:

  1. Full voice that works and is used by everyone
  2. Full voice that works but is only used by good squads/buddies
  3. Multi-function anytime-selectable commo rose of prerecorded messages
  4. "Smart" "context-sensitive" non-selectable prerecorded messages

Bummed we all got stuck with #4 on the list.  But at least they kept the blue name = teammate, green name = squadmate thing.

All that said, it's an awesome game, I've had a hard time not allowing it to consume all my gaming time, forcing myself to finish Dragon Age first!
