I recently got matched for a game and the seller accepted to send it to me. Hours later however he sent me an PM saying that he had sold the game instead. This is his first trade here and I was wondering if I should just cancel the trade or if I should wait to leave negative feedback. I don't want to cancel it but it's also there first trade here so I don't know whether to deal with it or be aggressive. How would you guys handle it?

This is just me, but I'd give them a break. But also leave them a message telling them to try to not make the mistake again.

I am sure you will get a variety of responses on this one, but it is up to you to do what you feel is right/best.

Just tell him to request a cancel which you will accept. That would seem to be the easiest solution. Also try nicely tell him to make sure he is willing to trade the game out before listing it in his offers in the future.

if you can wait for the game or the seller is an ass, then leave the negative when you can.

otherwise, move on and cancel

If you decide to take the "nicer" path, just make sure you get the seller to initiate the trade cancel so you won't lose your place in line.

If they won't (or if you don't wanna cancel), hit them with a Neg. It's not your responsibility to ensure the game they're supposed to trade out is actually available, it's theirs.

Here comes the more aggressive answer...lol.

First of all, this is a terrible way to start with Goozex, and it might be worthwhile to have this flagged for the rest of the community as a warning.  I have no problem dealing with noobies, but one who can't even get their first trade right (by not doing it at all...no effort there), leaves me suspicious.  I think others would want to know this guy may be a no-show for future trades.  It's really hard to tell when there's no history to bank on?  Honest mistake or treachery?  Who knows?

Was this game a 'hot' title, likely in the 1000 range?  If so, this could just be a bogus account meant to tie up a spot in line while the real account moves forward; a problem of sorts here.  This fellow may have just been dumb enough to reply to any inquiries rather than stay silent like most scammers.  However, in the seller's defense, most scammers seem to just leave the trade pending rather than initiate any sort of cancellation, so perhaps this IS just a mistake.

As noted above, in the end it's on you to decide what to do, but this is a clear cut negative so don't feel bad doing so if you come to that conclusion.  "I sold it" is a terrible excuse, new trader or old, and given that it IS this sellers first trade, one that most reasonable people put a bit of extra effort into just to ensure it runs smoothly, I remain suspicious to say the least.  The only feather in this seller's cap is that it appears the cancellation came relatively promptly, which is a good start despite the BS answer.

Leave the negative. The seller had it in his offers to trade, and he had accepted the trade, therefore he had committed to trading it to you, not selling it to someone else. There's no excuse for that, but then again I don't put up with that B.S. . If you want to sell the game another way, either take your game out of the offers or decline the trade request. Once you commit the trade, IMHO the game is no longer yours to do with as you please.

A fine additional answer.  The acceptance of the trade pretty much negates 'I don't have it' excuses.

His window to sell it instead of trading it should have been when he had the 26 hours before accepting to send it, at which point he could have declined sending it.

I'd stick him with a negative.

A negative doesn't seem to do much good if it's a brand new account. All he needs to do is create a different account. There's nothing tying him to that account except the name.

So if he offers a cancel, it's probably simplest for all involved to accept. A negative isn't a real punishment, and it takes longer to process.

Interesting Development

I went to send the user a message saying how I did not wish to cancel the trade but I saw when I pressed PM:

"The user information you requested is not available because the user does not exist or was disabled."

Well it's odd that the trade wasn't automatically canceled but I guess that is the end of that. Seems oddly suspicious. I'll report this to Goozex in case it's some new type of scam.

If you were trying to get a relatively current title, this is old news unfortunately.

If the user has been disabled, typically you can leave whatever negative you'd like to resolve this now one sided trade and carry on with trading of your own.  Of course you'll have to wait the full 3 day countdown (since the user isn't around to potentially dispute it), but it's better than waiting the full term of the trade.
