I'm looking for something to play possibly of the old school genre, it would have to be on either the Wii or the 360. I would prefer it if I could just download it as well.
I'm looking for something along the lines of old school RPG. So any suggestions would be very welcome and appreciated to help me out through this difficult time in losing my PS3.
I'm thinking about getting Phantasy Star IV on the Wii VC but I have played I, II, or III. Is it pivotal that I play these first? I know they aren't too much and getting all three shouldn't be too big a problem I just don't know if I should play through the first 3 or not fist.
Although I have heard the third doesn't really add to anything store wise so that one I might be able to skip.
What is it with broken PS3s that drives people to play RPGs?
PS4 was the only one in the original series I never played through completely. From what I remember, you do get more out of it if you played the first 3 entries (especially the first 2), but it wasn't a necessity. As much as I loved those games back in the day, IMO the mechanics of the series haven't aged well - i'd probably look elsewhere.
Secret of Mana, Shining Force or Super Mario RPG perhaps?

That Might and Magic DS game that got great reviews is coming to XBLA soon... maybe that?
Secret of Mana looks good but it would most likely only be me playing and it seems that more people means more fun. I was looking at Beyond Oasis that seemed like it could be fun. I'm also debating Stat Tropics. From what I can remember that game was a lot of fun too.
M&M H HD looks hawt
You could get the "new" Final Fantasy II "sequel" on VC and then tell me if it's worth it because I've been pondering it myself

SoM is an awesome game and plays just fine as a single player game
another vote for Mario RPG for me
and I know you said you'd rather download, but if you want to play the Phantasy Star games, why not just pick up Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for $20?(unless you already have it on PS3)
I have Mario RPG and love it tremendously. I have been debating the Sonic Genesis collection but the big turn off for me was lack of Sonic and Knuckles connectivity. Although it might be worth it for the Phantasy Star games. I believe I have it on hold too. I gotta say I am tempted with Secret of Mana.
Oh and Solasto I have FF II on both my GBA and my DS. Although it's labeled as FFIV on both of those. I love them too! One of the best Final Fantasy games.

I meant this one : Final Fantasy IV : The After Years
As Final Fantasy II (the snes one) is my fav FF ever I've been REALLY tempted to get the After Years but I keep forgetting about it
not really an rpg, but I love the paper mario series (the Wii has one)
