I for one think this concept is crap that they are doing that with games. I know, for some reason, on this site there is an over abundance of support for the developers on this site. And I think it's a little ridiculous. I do understand that they are upset about the lack of profit they are getting from the sales that stores like GameStop get in reselling their games. However, this is not unlike the complaints broadcast networks are having with the cable company's ever since the analog spectrum was given up. Sure free tv still exists, but a great majority of people opted to go to the cable networks to get their basic television and therefore these services gained a lot of profit and now these broadcast companies want to extort more money out of these companies because the advertisements aren't enough for them. I'm not going to bleed for multi-million dollar companies when I as the consumer am getting shafted. If you design a game and purposfully restrict material so someone can pay to use what they already own, because its on the disc is pretty much extorting the customer. It's wrong and if anyone is willing to defend that is just crazy unless you have some kind of stake in the profits. I on the otherhand can not blame them for wanting to persure this option as a way to increase profit, but that doesn't mean the consumer has to stand for it. You always have the option not to buy their games on those grounds, and to essentially boycott their services. If you choose not to than you are giving consent for this to happen and it will only get worse. I enjoy a DLC when a game is released and it is then developed afterwards and added upon the game. Perhaps its something they wished to do but could not make the deadline with it or is something they were inspired to do after release. However, for it to be something that is already in your hands and you need to pay extra for the key to open it is ridiculous.
But thats just my two cents.
Two cents is too much. You're opinion should've either come with the thread to begin with or been free.

No no...he said HIS two cents not yours. With HIM paying the two cents it IS free for you.
*sigh*
Okay, fine. He wasted HIS two cents on an opinion that should've already come with the thread.
I think this is ridiculous. I also think 2K will backtrack and refund anyone who bought it, and offer it for free. They are taking a lot of flak for it.
Especially after that idiotic PR explanation.
DrJ079: You're going to create these for free, correct?
Brah dude, slow way down on the sarcastic trollin
ZitterZap:I am anti DLC and I have never paid for a DLC unless it is free.
/end thread.
Seriously tho, I don't understand the "hate" for DLC. People always complain "you cut it from the disc and now are trying to sell it!" but the reality is, every game and every DLC is different and has a story we fully don't know.
Dragon Age for instance has this "during development, split off into a DLC team" model. Something like RTO simply was not ready for launch, and was in a diff dev stream. It is "true DLC"
The Bioshock 2 "DLC" is not DLC at all, it's paying for unlock codes. To even call it DLC is a misnomer. Microsoft pulled this crap with Counterstrike on the XBOX1
I buy a lot of DLC, I never buy cheat codes or unlock codes (as long as I am aware of it) I'm sure someday I will be "tricked" into buying an unlock code when I think I'm buying DLC. Hopefully sooner rather than later there will be some regulations about what products can actually be labeled and sold as. so we can make informed decisions.
I spent $5 on DAO RTO over the weekend and it was worth every penny. But I wouldn't spend $0.99 on a Godfather 2 cheat code

Well I don't think they will give away the unlock codes for "free" just because of bad PR... most buyers of BS2 never even check the boards so they are oblivious to the uproar.
I was planning on buying Bioshock 2 and then the Widescreen 'scandal' happened. when I asked on the boards about it, the community manager told me that the FOV was as intended on consoles and not linked to the PC widescreen glitch.
That seemed like an odd explanation to me since the FOV unlock fix was on Bioshock 1 console versions. But BS2 had not FOV unlock, just that lame Halo style zoomed FOV.
So strike 1, bad QA on the Widescreen glitch, then strike 2 assuming the zoomed gimp FOV was what people wanted even tho BS1 had the true pulled back FOV option.
Now cheat code unlocks being "sold" as "DLC" is strike 3. So yes, I have indeed voted with my wallet. Oh well, I will live
As long as you get a full gaming experience for your money, who cares if there's more content on the disc? With Bioshock 2, even if they already had the content ready to go, you got your money's worth by buying the game. Quit bitching about the 'DLC'. Either buy it or don't.
People would rather spend the time complaining online, spending possibly hours raging about it, that could be used to make money to pay for the DLC. Kinda counter productive there.

This.
Bah humbug, imma have to agree that charging me to access content that's on the disk I already paid for is lame.
I think the most anyone would get is already in progress: they're offering a rebate if you purchase the game and the DLC from GFWL this month.
There are very few publishers that would publicly admit that they've done something douchey. 2K is not one of them. These "paying for an unlock code" rants have been a public issue for long enough that, if they cared, they could have avoided this.
TenTonHammer23:that could be used to make money to pay for the DLC.
It's not DLC, it's paying to unlock disc content
I read that 2K justified the content being on the disk because they didn't want to "split the player base," which I think means they wanted people who didn't want the content to still be able to play with people who have it. Makes sense to me, except that it being on the disk isn't the problem. The problem is that the content was already made when the game released, they are just milking us of money. The could have charged a bit less for the content at least.
They should have done this like the Cerberus Network for ME2. A free unlock key with the new copies of the game. Would have been a lot more fair. Too late now though, 2K. Somebody hand me the FAIL stamp.

Who spends HOURS on the same forum?
