Okay, it's an annoying small market, though coincidentally it's one of my favourites.
I'm looking for them for PC, but on that note, I've only ever really seen them for PC.
Examples: Space rangers 1 & 2 (One didn't work for me, ><)
Escape Velocity (Macintosh) Looks like there's one windows one I'm going to go nab now.
Can anyone suggest any others?

There aren't many, but some of these might be what you're looking for:
It's a really old DOS-based game, but there's also Solar Winds.
A free version of Star Control 2 can be downloaded. It's called Ur-Quan Masters. That sounds similar to what you're looking for. Also check out Escape Velocity Nova. Download the demo and try it.
