cheeznrice: readordie23:So far it's painfully tedious grinding from those chips from soldiers because 1 out of 3 enemy encounters seems to drop a chip for me. I guess it's not meant to be quick and easy. :p I've used a majority of my resources leveling up weapons. Finally hit a multiplier of 3, but don't know how I did it :/ I'm not getting many drops of useful materials but that could be due to the area. I agree that it is nice to see the different styles for each character, but I look forward to them letting me use who I want to use in battle though.

Now that you've got that x3 multiplier, don't level up that weapon anymore until you can afford enough high experience items to max it, or get close. When a weapon levels you'll lose the multiplier, and they're harder to get the higher level the weapon is.

Crap. Too late, I already used my high experience ones...I think it's down to 2.5 or something, but I'll keep that in mind Maskim. I have the guide and really only look at the maps...I'm sure reading about the weapons/accessories would have helped

As someone who has not really enjoyed a FF game since IX I've been pleasantly surprised by this one. I basically had no expectations going into it since I had done my best to ignore everything on the internet about it before it came out and it's actually quite enjoyable.
I like the combat, it's kinda blah early on but it gets better once you can start mixing up your Paradigms. It's kinda strange at first only controlling one person but the AI actually does a good job of making the right choices for the other characters. The graphics are really nice and the music fits well. My only real gripe is that some of the dialogue is a bit "cringe inducing". At least none of the characters are terribly annoying (yet) but Venille (i think thats how it's spelled) is walking that line.
Mind you I'm only about 4-5 hours in so I've barely touched it yet but to me the first few hours are what make or break an RPG and so far it's got me going back for more.
to get the 3x multiplier it is easiest just to buy 39 wicked fangs and use them all on the same item. It will get you a 3x multiplier. After that I buy as many turobjets as I can after I have sold off the accessories and weapons I dont want. I have my main three characters weapons upgraded as high as they can be for now and need to progress further to upgrade them further. I used this guide to decide which weapons were worth upgrading since once you start upgrading your weapon that is probably going to be the weapon you use for the rest of the game.

So basically stick with leveling up one weapon to transform it to the 3rd tier as all 3rd tiers are the same for each of Lightning's swords (for instance)? Or does leveling a better 1st tier weapon produce better initial 3rd tier stats?
edit:
NM, I think I got it...what that tells me is to stop upgrading until I get better base weapons. Thanks killmak.

Not exactly correct,
the way to think of it is the organic components like study bones, vibrant ooze etc. increase your mulitplier based on a points system. There was a breakdown of the multiplier points assigned to each organic and how many required to reach each multiplier level on gamefaqs but I can't find it now, it was prob from the official guide.
The synthetic components like turbo jets, supercharger etc. have high EXP values. so the best method to upgrade weapons is.
1, Choose equipment to upgrade.2, Use 36 Sturdy Bones, Barbed Tails or Vibrant ooze to get a x3 bonus.3, Use as many as you can afford of the synthetic components to max the value of EXP applied.4, When the weapon reaches it's * lvl use a transformational catalyst to upgrade to the next tier (form) of the weapon.5, Return to step 2 and repeat until your weapon is fully upgraded.
Wait until Chapter 11 before grinding to upgrade your weapons, I found a few spots in earlier chapters but it's much easier because gil and CP are easier to farm in Ch.11 doing C'eith stone missions.

Each one of their weapons has a different purpose dependent on how which paradigm class is your dominant role for the character. Weapons have higher magic, strength and bonuses related to this. Consider this more than which initially has better stats.

Although my synopsis was not exactly correct, it was also a lot less to type, considering cheez already has the guide. If he wants the intricacies of upgrades, I'm sure he'll open the book. That's what I did. I wasn't going to scribe a page of text though, when the basic gist of it is passed on in the few short sentences I wrote. Use a lot of high experience items when you have the xp bonus.
I haven't gotten too far with upgrading, myself. I turned Lightning's gladius into a Helter Skelter, still lvl 19. Snow's Power Circle is * and Venille's Healer's Staff (or whatever) is also * while I look for catalysts.
The only part I was pointing out while trying to help them out was it doesn't become more difficult to obtain a high multiplier, the higher level of a weapon. It's always (around) 36-37 of the organic components to obtain a 3x and then load on the synthetic ones.
I too turned Lightnings Gladius into a Helter-Skelter which rocked in the early levels but now that Fang is my go to Commando I need to work on her magic based weapon to increase her Ravager stats.
Does anybody use the other paradigms other than ravenger, commando and medic? I am on disc three, cant remember what chapter # but I really dont use any of the other paradigms. I am thinking about upgrading on of my members as a synergist so that I can use them at the start to boost my team and then switching them over to ravenger. I havent had any trouble with my set up yet though so I wonder if it is worth upgrading the synergist path or any of the others.

Early on yes you can beserk your way through most battles, from time to time swtiching up for some medics but once the game gets rolling in disc three yes, you will rely on all classes.
IMO Lighting should be your ravager/commando/sometimes medic for combat clinic, Snow-Sentinel/Commando, Fang-Commando/ Saboteur/Sentinel if not using Snow, Hope-Ravager/Medic/Synergist, Vanille-Ravager/Saboteur/Medic*thrives with equipment boosts, Sazh-Ravager/Synergist.*thrives with equipment boosts
Once the Crystarium opens to allow all paradigms available you can obviously go any direction you want but based on stats these are what are their strongest roles are.
I currently have snow as my commando/ sometimes ravenger, Lightning ravenger/medic, Hope ravanger/medic. I am just wondering if I should try to throw a synergist into one of my formations. Are the synergists any good during the shorter battles or are they only good for the longer ones.
Haste cast by Sazh is great regardless of the battle length but buffing from synergists usually comes in handy for the longer battles. Check out this vid by IGN Strategize kinda helpful and sums up what I was saying.
**edit or against those enemies who inflict status ailments against your party
I currently use Snow, Lightning and Vanille at the beginning of chapter 11. I'm building their skills and equipment to use Snow(commando/ sentinel), Sasz (Ravager/ Synergist/Medic) and Lightning (Ravager/Saboteur/Medic).

I've found the paradigm party mix of Commando/Synergist/Sentinel to start of a fight of the mobs in the beginning of Ch.11 really helps, especially against things like goblins and munchkins that are relentless in attacks. That way they just focus on the Sentinel and I'm free to Blindisde them with Lightning and Hope after he's buffed every1
